Steele: New Biz Opportunity–Renting Getaway Cars

This past Friday the Kansas City area experienced two major crimes…

One was tragic, both were incredibly stupid. What the would-be robbers of  Shawnee gun shop She’s a Pistol and the downtown Commerce Bank had in common was the absence of a get-a-way car.

If our young thugs would only have watched Turner Classic Movies, they’d have known that all good heists culminate with the thieves hopping in a waiting car and speeding off.

They’d also know all such heists end up with the perps dead or in jail.

Steven Marquain Davis, 29, of Kansas City, must not have cable.

After a complex bomb-threat bank robbery, Davis wandered out on to Petticoat Lane with no better plan than to steal a get-a-way car. First he tried to hijack a woman’s Suzuki Grand Vitara mid-block. Not surprisingly, the woman refused his request to “open the door” and drove off. So did two other drivers. Racists!

When police arrived, Davis pointed his gun at the officers, and they opened fire, wounding him.

Whether Al Sharpton will lead a downtown march chanting, “No justice, no keys” remains to be seen.
