Remember when I chuckled at the announcement of United Airlines non-stop service out of T-Town to Chicago about this time last year?
Two small jet round trips a day, to be exact.
I predicted at the time that without a continued hefty subsidy United wouldn’t keep Topeka in their system for a year.
It lasted eight months.
Looks like T-Town ran out of State/Fed funding by early June and United kept the service up at its own expense—until September 2nd, that is.
Their average load factor was only about 49%. Pretty poor, especially when you consider that the aircraft used on the route were small CRJ jets seating somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 passengers.
Greyhound, anyone?
I think I hear The Fifth Dimension singing “Up, up and away in my beautiful balloon.” Just leave room for Dorothy and Toto!
Does Kansas have a commercial airport?
Wichita Mid-Continent?
You’re absolutely correct, Lance.
Sad part is that Topeka almost completely refurbished the terminal for the arrival of United.
You can see a video tour of the place on YouTube.
But honest to god, it just didn’t make sense being this close to MCI.
screw Topeka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if youwant to fly drive to kc and get a plane.
otherwise try covered wagons you old whiny crime filled disgusting
old fogies trapped in a city in the middle of nowhere.
