Glazer: Scribe Crosses His Fingers, Conjures Cup Half Full

Lee-SungwooBehold the talk of the day in Kansas City…

Did the long layoff hurt the Royals momentum? Can the team start hitting again? Does the first loss of the post season spell trouble? Can KC still win it all?

Hey, it’s just one game right?

Well, in the last 15 years only two teams that lost game one came back and won the World Series. However these Royals don’t follow conventional rules, do they? So it’s just game one, relax, tonight is the NEXT BIG ONE.

That said, the Royals are in an almost must win in tonight’s game at home.

If they go down by two games with five left and three in San Fran, OUCH.

We would need to win four of the remaining five games. And that’s an uphill climb for sure. Last nights 7-1 loss felt really bad. The Royals seemed kinda out it after the first inning.

The Royals have not been hitting the last three playoff games.

They scored just two runs in two of the games and only one last night. Clearly they have to get some timely hits and score more runs. This was the problem during the regular season. They snapped out of it in the wild card game and a couple more with the Angels and Baltimore, but that has faded.

Paul-Rudd-Royals-618x400I just don’t think you can count on the pitching staff holding everyone to a run or two every game.

But hey, KC won eight in a row. They had the magic going.

So now what?

Well, no matter what happens it’s been a fun ride this October. The Royals made the World Series and Kansas City has gotten more national attention in a positive way then we’ve had in years.

Thus far its–it’s been mostly about what local film stars are coming back to KC for games, the dude from South Korea who loves the Royals and is doing a movie about being a super fan, how much are the tickets going for, where’s the parade going to be after the series, Hosmer buying drinks for the house at Power and Light. Lots of fun stories and put smiles on Kansas City folks.

George-BrettSo no matter what happens now it has been a great time for this city. George Brett gets to relive the 1985 series over and over and is front and center on each game. It’s a month long holiday.

So will the Royals come back tonight? Will the Royals win this thing? No way to tell. I do believe tonight is a must win game for the boys in Blue to be world champs. So here we go ….

IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER.’ HAPPY NOW.

Baumgartner was effing Godzilla last night and KC was Tokyo.
Another automatic win for SF when he pitches next.

  2. mike t. says:

yep, definitely a must-win. ventura has to be lights out tonight and the bats have to make some noise. salvy getting a HR off MB is a good sign. and we did hit him hard last night.

but you’re right craig, been a fun ride so far and caught a lot of people off guard even making it this far. and i’m not counting them out yet.

It’s time your articles focus on ladies’ aid quilting bees. You don’t know sports.

  4. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

SF has already accomplished what they wanted to in KC, which was swing the homefield advantage back in their favor. They’d love to win Game 2, but it’s not really critical for them. They could lose game 2 and still go home a close out the series, which is exactly what they did against St Louis.

  5. harley says:

the home plate umpire was making bad calls on James’s pitches…wasn’t giving
him the inside….so james had to adjust and we saw what happened…BOOM/
peavey has no luck against royals especially at the k.
need todd bridges for good luck. bring him out to the k…gotta win game 2.

  6. Kerouac says:

They are who KC should have known they are… GIANTS. Winning game 1 carries with it an omen: usually good for the winner, not so much the loser. History bearing said out – advantage, City by the Bay boys.

Game 2, Kerouac expects the Royals as their fans to come out re-energized & charged up. The younger, more athletic & less experienced locals enthusiasm will run head on once again a SF team built on experience, success and directed by the best Manager in MLB, my opine.

Game 2 is KC’s ‘season’ on the line, likely. They can’t afford to fall behind any farther likely, and though one can’t count on 8 game winning streaks, a 4 game would suffice this case; said is unlikely.

Unless the Royals come out quick just as the GIANTS did last night and grab the lead – which is to say momentum – and instead SF does so again/KC unable to overcome, the tell-tale signs self-doubt and panic will likely begin to present, 0-2 reality.

Reminds Kerouac a bit of Superbowl 1, when young upstarts KC battled the venerable Packers. Chiefs fell behind early before getting un-tracked, kept it close for a half only to fall behind again – for good as it turned out, ending in a Green Bay runaway.

Still see the GIANTS winning the ‘World Series’ in five games, but if game 2 does not provide the lift a thence desperate Royals team needs, a 4-game sweep may present.

Can’t disagree, K-Man. Win tonight? Renewed life and a fighting chance. Lose tonight? Whaaa, whaaa, whaaaa. Thanks for playing.

Side note: How can you NOT freaking love Hunter Pence? Dude is just a ballplayer. Goofy. Unorthodox. Old school shit.

Deflated from the shellacking, but optimistic about a bounce-back.

    • Shawn Trenolone says:

Wha Wha(cue theme from Debbi Downer) and right on time here comes Kero-whack to steal the breath from the room. In case you don’t know…and at your advanced age..you don’t..Debi Downer was a character from SNL (SNL is a scketch show on NBC..been there for 40 years) who no matter what or occasion, always has something negative to say. Allow me to make one of your “bold” predictions. “If the Royals can score more runs than the Giants…they will likely win. If the Royals can win tonight and win the next three in San Fran, then this series is likely over.” God your the worst.

  7. Kerouac says:

Per the usual, read every word Kerouac’s, the Lays Potato Chip blogdom… your angst be palpable if your acumen limited; your narrative as the Royals baseball pulse, nil…

(PS) 1-0 GIANTS, first batter tonight with a home run…

    R.I.P. Royals

    🙂

    • Shawnster says:

Per the usual, you are wrong again. 7-2 Royals. My acumen may be limited, yours non-existent. My narrative as the baseball pulse on target. Your delusional drivel par for the course. Night night Debi.

  8. Kerouac says:

Royals season ended tonight… home portion now, in entirety Sunday. One post season win in 29 years will have to suffice, perhaps another 29.

‘Wait till next year part 30, KCindy’, 2015…

    🙂

  9. Kerouac says:

Your’re reaching, stretching, straining – D’OH! – pulled yer arm out the socket… nine be as good as one, same as none, since… 1985 (29 the hard way)

    🙂
