Chiefs coach Andy Reid and QB Alex Smith put out a hell of a game plan.
Yes, they’re still 0-2, but at kleast they found their soul today. Taking the AFC Champion Denver Broncos down to the wire at Denver and losing by just 7 was a moral victory. For sure. Alex was damn good, he found new targets. And Jamaal Charles may be lost for who knows how long, he seemed hurt last week. Dwayne Bowe was his usual ok but not overpowering self and the Chiefs defense with a bunch of no names played very well.
And Denver is probably guilty of looking past KC.
But hey, the Chiefs more than showed up.
Maybe they’re not the worst team in the NFL after all, we’ll see.
It sure did cost me on my bets, but I did win on my picks with them on teases. Still a 7 point loss was unexpected. Hey, the world champs lost to San Diego for today biggest upset.
It’s the NFL.
I’ll be weighing in shortly on all the new NFL crimes, including Adrian Peterson and his issues with child abuse and more.
Missouri proved they are a power again this year, with one of the NCAA best quarterbacks, Maty Mauk. Kansas is terrible again this year and this is Charlie Weiss‘s last year there for sure.
Again, hats off to Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.
He kept the Chiefs respectable and then some. Still 0 and 2 is – well, you know the drill.
Our core players are all but gone, Charles, Derrick Johnson, Eric Berry and probably more to come. The Chiefs will need a total rebuild again over the next two years to compete, but I don’t think Andy Reid will survive next season.
We need to go young and start this program over from the ground floor up because it just didn’t work.
Again, there’s just not enough talent anywhere on this team – desire yes, talent no.
I don’t think Missouri has proved anything quite yet, other than they are a solid team again. Beat Georgia at home and then we can re-evaluate.
Well 3 and 0 is a nice start, expected but still. I said they’d be good, great I don’t know, you are right about that. A Georgia win and we can talk big things.
Missouri is one year from the big show….marty is going to play a full
year and next year its lights out. receivers will fill the bench…
could see an 8 win season…maybe 9,,,,,but cooumiba is booming.
was there Saturday…more constructions going on than I ever imagined.
cash is flowing in ….and they’re tagging some qb who willgie them
3 more years of good qb.
don’t fool yourself….5 teams from west sec are in top 10….this I s not
college ball…this is proballl minor leabues.
just like self is getting the “fab four ” to come to Lawrence….
I’m a fan…good bad…indifferent….and theres nothing like the
full year long cyles of great sports in our town….
maybe the chiefs turned the corner…one of gutsiest games in a long time.
I couldn’t tell you who was playing for the chiefs with all the injuries…
but they’re my team….and i’ll cheer them on no matter what.
many people read my comments about the chiefs traing
campand while glaze and chuckles mae some ridiculous
comments without knowing the naalystics or data of
profootbals or college football….Harley does.
field position is everything…and the chiefs never had tha
great of field position. If one team gets 12 yards better starting
position than their opponent that team wins 95% of the games.
its along great season…
go spport the chiefs…support our royals…support glaess
new place (you can see the letters from st. Louis)…and
thesporting…we love our teams like no other city anywhere!!!!!!!
Yeah Harley, I am a little weak on “Naalystics” but I did pick 9 out of 10 last weekend and won 380.00 while you, STILL are not within a light year of knowing sports, but run your mouth anonymously and pretend you made picks before the games are actually played.
Here is the thing Harley, you can’t pick the Chiefs and the points against Denver on Monday the day AFTER the game you dumb fu*k.
that $380 can be used to replace the upholstery
in your 1998 buick regal you drive.
or just buy a new recliner to fall asleep
in a 8pm from ikea.
I don’t play football….worst game to play.
you and glaze can do it….better odds you’ll
fill the pothole on wornall than you hit 5out of
10 games in a week.
and wow…pretty big player….what..you bet
your entire weekly paycheck?
hahahahahaha
Harley JoJo, I could win the lottery tomorrow, you will always be stupid.
Now go take a picture of your dick with your cell phone and send it to yourself.
I’ll be tailgating in the Tiger Scholarship Fund tailgate, and sitting on the 50 yard line for the Indiana game. Should be another great weekend in Columbia. A week off, and then Columbia explodes as Georgia comes to town.
we can’t make the Indiana game but gotseats to
Georgia.
talked with an ku alumni and he wanted to start
the mu should not havemoved b.s. all over again.
wanted to punch the guy.
these ku fans don’t get it. Take your great bball team
and stfu. Theres no money to pay teachers…no money
for k-12 education and worst of all the state of Kansas
is dead broke.
they don’t get it. Its over…MU has moved and what
a huge move it was.
best decision in mu history….and now as we become
a regular highly ranked team…as the money comes
in like aslot machine…as we become one of the top
academic universities in the nation….ku fans take
you bball and that barn you play in and be proud
of what little you have!@
Chiefs played a lot better than I thought they would. Still, this season is lost.
according to cg, it was lost before it started. unfortunately, chiefies are proving him right so far.
Beyond the “attaboy” and “moral victory” losers lament, disagree the Chiefs played well.
With apologies to the cheerleader Holtus, Narrowhead Pride types & other kool-aid drinkers, there was never any chance KC was going to win the game – none. The KC broadcaster said “the Chiefs had a chance to win this game” after they blew their 4th down opportunity. Memo to Mitch: no, they didn’t. They had a chance to ‘tie’ Denver, and of course ‘if’ we’d made that field goal, and ‘if’ we’d not let them get that long kick-off return, and ‘if’ Denver hadn’t showed up for the game, and wasn’t better & ‘yadda yadda yadda’.
Even when they were ahead by a few points (even had they gone up 3 tds (yeah, right) by way some serendipitous-do), they were never in the game. The Broncos, who were flat, disinterested and no doubt overconfident/probably laughing at the rag-tag ‘NFL bum of the week’ they were matched up against Sunday, still are 51-13 better than KC, which was Kerouac’s pre-game pick. Denver did the same thing they did last week vs INDY: punched their opponent in the mouth, and then coasted. Denver hit the Chiefs for a bomb the first play and scored before the Coors had a chance get warm & put it on auto-pilot. 2 L’s down, 14 to go the prediction until/unless they meet an opponent more ‘born to lose’.
~
Players:
Santos: the uproar over him is interesting. He went 1-2 on field goals, and is now 2-4 on the young season, un-drafted rookie. Kill him, release him, replace him the cry. Of note, former KC kicker Jan Stenerud went 1-2 his first game regular season and then went 1-4 his second game. 2 for 6 after two games, and he ended up missing 15 field goals on the year, 21-36 his final line on his way to the Hall of Fame. Santos is not the reason KC lost yesterday’s game and he wasn’t the reason they lost vs TEN.
Kelce: shakey hands (another drop and another near drop), adequate blocking if a bit out of control at times; that Hall of Fame enshrinement his will have to wait, if ever.
Smith: he ‘is’ the Chiefs offense. Nuff said.
Charles: not in charge, not on the field, his continuing descent as a RB on display yet again. He’ll become a role player sooner than later, an Todd McNair type. His days of 1,000 yard seasons is fini.
Bowe: a quiet return.
Fisher: as I said he was/would, #72 is coming on. He’s their best OL’man, playing vs the oppositions’ best weekly. Hudson/the rest: a good game/hit and miss.
Berry: ‘the great overhype’ was once again torched trying to defend a TE/opposition, DEN’s Julius Thomas turned #29 into a dreidel, another td allowed the ‘Pro Bowl’ S before he left to the comfort the dressing room. The most overhyped player in Chiefs history continues to underwhelm, yet keeps getting praise from the gullible.
The rest: nothing to write home about. Next man up, nice try, time’s yours, etc. etc.
Next week, KC having shot their wad vs DEN, will come out flat as did the Broncos yesterday, and the Dolphins (who lost yesterday), will vent their spleen/frustration upon the game but going nowhere Chiefs.
The truth shall set them free… they remain the worst (or one of) team(s) in the NFL, no “yeah buts” and/or “if only’s” can change the obvious – wait till next year part 46, year of our forsaken franchise 2015, presents.
Go (0-16) Chiefs (if only because it would be historic. Another #1 overall draft choice and another rebuilding campaign? We’ve already been there/done that.)
k….disagree with you on your article.
Denver played tough…wathc the pkay that injured jamal…a cheap ass tackle where
the debender turned Charles around while the other bronco had his leg…cheap shot.
we did see some good things….a buckup running back with some guts…but why
not throw more to bowe…..I jut don’t get it.
you and glaze wake up negative everyday….nothings good unless it involves
hookers/hos/booze/hotties/…..nothing else seems to fill you tow and your
void in life.
A coherent post (or at least less prolixic & lost in space yours than the usual)… I will address.
“Denver played tough”
– the Broncos merely did enough to win; against KC, it doesn’t require much. DEN played ‘down’ to KC’s level. Wasn’t the Chiefs who looked good, it was DEN that looked bad, ‘going through the motions’; still good enough to win.
“wathc the pkay that injured jamal…a cheap ass tackle where
the debender turned Charles around while the other bronco had his leg…cheap shot.”
– it’s called ‘football’, or at least it used to be (moreso ‘love taps’ today, pursuit the almight dollar & a fear lo$ing it’s facilitators reason why the pussification the game. Butkus et al made those type tackles several times each game. Too, a KC player rolled over onto Charles lower extremities; the DEN player merely hurt #26 feelings, likely.
“we did see some good things”
– we agree to disagree…
“….a buckup running back with some guts”
– 3.59 davis? The 3.56 the season ‘Dancing Queen’? Adherent the old Paul Hackett ‘sideways offense’, nee running style? ok.
“…but why not throw more to bowe”
– he was rusty… he wasn’t open… he was double-covered… he was busy pointing to the name (his) on the back of his jersey… he isn’t all that…
“…..I jut don’t get it. you and glaze wake up negative everyday”
– separate beds if a similar sense reality, Kerouac is a counter the ‘everything’s (always) coming up roses’ blinders, Chiefs fandumb. Feel free refute anything I’ve stated afore, herein, or elsewhere. Opinions are legion, mine is not affected by what others think, feel or believe, a ‘show Me’ state of mind, mine. Too, I’ve always been inclined more Nietzsche than Peale, par for the course the rigor of an annual rite KC sportsfandom.
“.nothings good unless it involves hookers/hos/booze/hotties/…..nothing else seems to fill you tow and your void in life.”
– and nothing’s better (let alone bad) some folks long as it has a KC logo on it. Kerouac is not a drinker, smoker or midnight toker. He neither chases girls or boys, nor succumbs to the necessity some to believe dissent equates traitor. Is no void in my life, only the vacuity be Chiefs ineptness since January 1970, as in 45 years strong.
The only thing Kerouac looks forward seeing this 2014 Chiefs season: watching D’Anthony Thomas do his best Noland ‘Supergnat’ Smith impersonation. Alas, fear the diminutive Thomas will meet the same fate did Smith 2 1/2 years into his KC stay, 1969: death by hits/clothes-lining a 5’6 1/2 154 lb. ‘Jet’, moreso 45 years & copious extra weight & speed brought to bear via NFL defenders 2014, a (listed) 5-9 174 lb. ‘Dat’. Smith wasa listed 5’8 163 when drafted; my guess is KC’s latest lilliputian is smaller too than he is given credit for.
Who Dat? Merely the latest Chiefs casualty.
stay home k….we didn’t miss ya. fun game.
How many teams could win probably one of the best
in the league without 30% of their offense in the lockerroom…
top d players injured….many players first nfl game…and
still eseentially have a chance to win on the road.
traditionally…road teams play more aggressively than home
teams…a fact.
don’t tell me Denver didn’t want this game….don’t tell me
they played down to kc’s level…
you saw that watching tv? They didn’t block or weren’t up
for the game. I disagree.
What I did see is a low key coach take a bunch of nobodies
whonever played at the pace of the nfl intheir livesand
make it a close game. Again..killed by a missed field goal.
sure their are no moral victories…
but still a great game to watch.
With your negativity and hate of this team…maybe you
should be reading a book or riding your bike (take off the
training wheels)…because its very toughto beat a team
like Denver on the road.
If you read my previous posts…I pointed out that the
training camp was very soft this summer and it wold
take 4-5 weeks to get this team playing better.
With the huge number of key injuries its gonna be an
even harder uphill battle.
nice article. You obviously know your stuff about football.
But let me make this clear….Harley is always right!!!!!!!
And Harley knows that even someone with glazes
ego…andsomeone like yourselfwill never beat vegas betting
on football. Dream on chumps.
“stay home k….we didn’t miss ya.”
– I am (almost) unspeakably wounded… almost. Stop following me, you and the rest your ‘others’ (Sybil)
“fun game.”
– as each 2014’s, Chiefs their Sisyphus trying roll ‘W’ up ‘The Hill’, 1965 movie same (possibly the worst ever, ditto KC’s excuse an NFL team.)
“How many teams could win probably one of the best in the league without 30% of their offense in the lockerroom…top d players injured….many players first nfl game…and still eseentially have a chance to win on the road.”
– you want someone send you a tissue?
“traditionally…road teams play more aggressively than home teams…a fact.
don’t tell me Denver didn’t want this game….don’t tell me they played down to kc’s level… you saw that watching tv? They didn’t block or weren’t up for the game. I disagree.”
– (nod ‘The Graduate’s “one word”, plastics) circa 2014, a deuce: “reality check”, yours; Chiefs were never in the game. Otherwise, tell me precisely ‘when’ it was you felt they were going to win it or had gained the momentum. Take your time, Kerouac will leave the lights on for you…
“What I did see is a low key coach take a bunch of nobodies whonever played at the pace of the nfl intheir livesand make it a close game.”
– more tissues – STAT!
“Again..killed by a missed field goal. ”
– that would be ‘Mr. Irrelevant’, Succop, last season, vs SD final regular season game. Also Stenerud his rookie season 1967, a missed 24 yard field goal with :19 seconds to play that cost KC not only that game but the defending Champs chance any repeating.
Had DEN needed to score copious tds in order win yesterday, no doubt would have. Shy KC clicking their heels together thrice and finding themselves ‘Seattle’, patently ridiculous imagine Chiefs beating anyone, but keep the delusion- er, ‘faith’, warm.
Santos is the least the Chiefs problems… Reid will stick with ‘Little Garo’ until/unless he actually affects the outcome a game/s, which he has not to date, to all the grasping at straws angst-filled types chagrin.
“sure their are no moral victories… ”
– no…
“but still a great game to watch.”
– wonderful…
“With your negativity and hate of this team”
– augmented your thimble-sized cognitive fund & pint-sized football acumen wrapped in kool-aid colored Gargoyles…
“maybe you should be reading a book or riding your bike (take off the training wheels)… ”
– if reading or riding equated football intellect/success, stationary bikes & playbooks should replace BBQ and liposuction as a Kansas City fashion statement and pastime. Talent doing as it can and genius as it must, Kerouac does…as you epitomize neither, what’s your excuse?
because its very toughto beat a team like Denver on the road.”
– last roll, tissue now on back order…
“If you read my previous posts…”
– sorry, my sundial (as your knack) is on the fritz…
“I pointed out that the training camp was very soft this summer and it wold take 4-5 weeks to get this team playing better. With the huge number of key injuries its gonna be aneven harder uphill battle.”
– more from ‘The Hill’ (starring YOU as Regimental Sergeant Major Bert Wilson): “I’m running this place! Me! I’ll say what goes and what don’t go!”
(Sergeant Charlie Harris, played by most any contributor this blog): “You ain’t running this place Bert, WILLIAMS is! Look at him! He took over days ago! You STILL haven’t caught on!”
Upshot: your luminosity this blog is as the Chiefs gridiron. . . ofer
“nice article. You obviously know your stuff about football.”
– the adulation line forms to the right…
“But let me make this clear”
– ‘perfectly’, Mr. Nixon?
“…Harley is always right!!!!!!!”
– not even once a day, though clocked (several times) you’ve been, appears…
“and Harley knows”
– nod Nancy’s Ron, Reagan: ‘well, there you go again…”
“that even someone with glazes ego…andsomeone like yourselfwill never beat vegas betting on football.”
– Kerouac works alone, sans net… don’t bet, just accept: Chiefs (Hoover vacuum)…
“Dream on chumps.”
– you too, Bullwinkle…
OK, your turn…
