The Schwag at the Granada in Lawrence
Remember when the Feds busted Schwag lead man Jimmy Tebeau for owning the property that hosted the annual Schwagstock festival? The law man came down hard on Jimmy because people were selling drugs (gasp) at a camping and music festival (double gasp). And he happened to own the land it was on. Total bummer, right? Well, he spent his time in the clink and he got out a few months ago. So now the band whose goal is to “preserve and perpetuate the music and vibe of the Grateful Dead” are back with a vengeance. And Jimmy kept his dreds! Should be a chill night…

Mudhoney at the Riot Room in KC
Yep, that Mudhoney – the guys from the Singles soundtrack; the guys from Seattle who were signed to Sub Pop during the heady, grunge 90s; the guys who are now, like, 50 years old, are coming to town. And from all indications, they’re still kinda doing the same thing, and doing it well. The band released an album last year titled Vanishing Point, and it got pretty strong reviews. Pitchfork‘s Steven Hyden gave it a 7.4, and said this:
“The difference between Mudhoney in 2013 and the Mudhoney of old is that what once seemed highly flammable is now reassuring. Mudhoney projects tradition and endurance, not danger; the band’s appeal these days is rooted in not spontaneously combusting, so that it can still exist when most of Mudhoney’s contemporaries are extinct.”
has anyone who went to schwagstock actually watch the schwag? I
