Hard choices remain in the Middle East as to who Americans should ally themselves with in the fight against ISIS…
Sometimes in life there are no good choices, consequently, a practical choice based on the situation in the current time frame is the only option.
Journalist James Foley was beheaded by ISIS a few weeks ago and a video was released earlier this week showing the beheading of US journalist Steven Sotloff.
British authorities believe they have identified Foley’s murderer and if so he needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.
The USA’s reputation thus far is that they will discover who the murders are, find them, and eliminate them. This is the only kind of response ISIS and other groups respect.
As tensions flare in the Middle East I don’t understand why the rest of the world doesn’t realize that there is no solution to bring peace to this part of the world.
For more than 5,000 years people in this region have been fighting each other with rare exception. To that point, I quote Thomas Jefferson:
“Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.”
As I’ve written before, the US should stay out of any conflict in this area and only help the countries there – through military aid – who are friends of America.
In other words follow the Arabic saying, “My friend’s enemy is my enemy, and my enemy’s enemy is my friend.”
Hopefully through our system of spy satellites, drones (and I hope spies on the ground) terrorist training camps and activities can be monitored and destroyed once and for all.
They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. And trying to create peace in the Middle East over and over again is insanity.

outside Israel we have no friends. all the governments from Syria to Jordan to
Saudi Arabia and Qatar give financial aid to the terrorists in one way or another.
so who do we deal with. Syria/Iraq (once we install a new more inclusive
government)….its a tough situation …….and it all started yes with mr. bush
and cheney wanting that oil.
Calvin, here is, in my opinion, a really interesting take on the last guy to get his head cut off, Sotloff (She also has some interesting views on Foley.). Worth a read for sure.
