Forget Bond, James Bond…
As ex-CIA agent Peter Devereaux, Pierce Brosnan is a lot edgier—taking on the bad guys in an R-rated, no rules kind of way.
Code named THE NOVEMBER MAN, Brosnan is surprisingly lethal despite that he’s enjoying the quiet life these days living in Switzerland.
Of course there’s always that last mission in Hollywood thrillers.
And here it’s trying to save the woman he once loved and had a daughter with. However when that Moscow mission fails he attempts to track down her killer who just happens to be a former protege.
And a mole messing up the works…ya think?
And what of the corrupt ex-general who’s got his mind set on becoming the next Russian president–-IF he can destroy anyone familiar with his past atrocities that is!
Ah, but he’s about to come face-to-face with the November Man!
And why is Brosnan’s character called that?
Because, “After he passes through, nothing lives.”
The suspense thriller is loaded with cliches and enduring coolness. Hey, I expected that. But the action is strictly R-rated, especially when compared to James Bond style violence.
It’s based on Bill Granger’s book, “There Are No Spies” which is part of ‘The November Man series.
This late summer entry is a season ending surprise in a GOOD WAY!
If you’re looking for 007 nostalgia here, you’ll pick up bits and pieces throughout the filmi The most obvious being ex-Bond girl Olga Kurylenko from 2008’s QUANTUM OF SOLACE.
The co-executive produced by Brosnan NOVEMBER MAN is the sole bright spot at the box office this Labor Day weekend.
So I offer up a toast to Devereaux, Peter Devereaux.
He scores a balls to the wall: B-.

Saw the trailer the other day and will give it s miss: the movie has so little to do with Granger’s books it would be depressing to watch.
Saw it last night and agree with your review. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Brosnan doe sequels.
