Think again. It’s the start of a new major Marvel Studios franchise! Comic fans have been stoked out about this 10th installment in Marvel’s cinematic universe for ages.
(Well, that’s maybe overstating it a bit.)
But the wait has definitely been worth it as GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY delivers on ALL counts.
Matter of fact its star Chris Pratt’s fortunes should skyrocket with his cool lead as Peter Quill/Star-Lord.
Abducted by aliens at a very young age, later in life he’s hired to retrieve a mysterious orb that happens to control the fate of the galaxies.
Not an easy task since evil warlord Ronan (Lee Pace) wants it too—in the worst way. So to stop Ronan from becoming the ultimate holder of the powerful orb, Peter now gathers a gallery of guardians to fight him off.
And what a lively ragtime bunch they are!
There’s CGI created Rocket, a raccoon, quick-lipped by Bradley Cooper.
Sexy green skinned Gamora played by AVATAR’s Zoe Saldana.
An ever expanding tree root called Groot voiced by Vin Diesel—with WWE wrestler Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Benicio DelToro as The Collector.
There’s a lot more to the story here but I’ll leave that for you to discover in this somewhat subversive take on superheroism.
If you’ve never heard of those Guardians Of The Galaxy before, they’ll soon become part of moviedom’s lexicon.
And a guaranteed new franchise for Disney in the making.
It’s a wisecracking, galactic space opera very much reminiscent of the original STAR WARS. Comparisons will be made.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, also featuring John C. Riley and Glenn Close, scores a cinematic B+.

They had me with the soundtrack. With this, Star Trek, and Avatar I think it’s safe to name Zoe Saldana the queen of the space.
…or just “space”.
I AM GROOT.
Are you ready for a reboot of Howard the Duck?
They only make these movies so foreign audiences with 4th grade english skills can follow the movie and read the subtitles on the not wordy script before they disappear off screen.
The sooner they run dry in the Marvel and DC universe the better. These movies used to be so-bad-theyre-good like Darkman or Tim Burton’s Batman but now they are just simply bad.
New or Trending on TPB this week, for free instead of watching a raccoon voiced by Face from new A-Team:
Draft Day (not that bad, and a football movie that is about a little understood part of the NFL)
Missouri native David Koechner’s “Cheap Thrills” movie (not watched yet)
Terry Gilliam’s brilliant Zero Theorem, which may be the movie of the year so far. Look for the Drarbg copies.
