Jack Goes Confidential: Hill & Tatum Top Themselves in ’22 Jump Street’

22-Jump-Street-5Sometimes sequels can be funnier than the original…

It doesn’t happen often but that’s what we’ve got THIS week at the movies.

22 JUMP STREET finds partners Schmidt and Jenko (Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum) back in action. But after making their way undercover through high school last time, this time out hard ass Captain Dickson (Ice Cube) has the goofy cops infiltrating a local college.

Posing as dorm-mates, Schmidt and Jenko try desperately to assimilate into the hip college life culture and infiltrate the traffickers behind a dangerous new drug known as Wifi.

Can they crack the case?

They’ll do whatever absurd action it takes to get the job done—including mentally challenged (?) Jenko getting on the football team.

Nothing is sacred here. Especially Hollywood’s fascination with sequels as the film literally laughs at itself.

For co-stars and co-producers Hill and Tatum (and co-writer Jonah Hill) they’ve got a no-brainer, tongue in cheek box office winner here even though their odd-couple bromance turns awkward at times during parts of the film.

The formula works. Why mess with it? Just improve on it. And that’s what we’ve got with 22 JUMP STREET.

After all they’re not 21 anymore……

22-jump-streetSo don’t analyze. Go for the the balls with the wall gags. You know what you’re getting with Schmidt and Jenko’s latest outing. They’re not making art here folks, just bank—and it works!

IMPORTANT!

In the past I’ve encouraged you to stick through the end credits for certain additional scenes or surprises.

But I’m afraid with 22JS I’ll have to insist!

Throughout the movie the dynamic duo refers to what COULD be facing them next. What the duo COULD be up against in numerous future sequels. And the possibilities range from Cooking and Beauty School to Seminary training—and eventually JUMP STREET: RETIREMENT HOME. Hilarious!

So just go for a 111 minute long laugh out loud, R-rated rocious romp.

22 JUMP STREET scoring a hilarious yet absurd B.

    Looks like a winner Jackie!
Sounds like a hard choice between seeing this or How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Saw it last night with my 17 year-old daughters who both liked it, gave it an 8 out of 10.

And the hip one actually was not happy about me taking her to see it so…

    A convert

Saw it with my son…it was pretty funny. He, of course, loved it.
