Is this movie a Parody? A Love story? Or an absurd Hit Man Thriller?
After watching 3 DAYS TO KILL I’m still looking for the answer to that question. If nothing else it could easily pass for a made-for-tv movie with a few doses of extreme violence thrown in to pacify the ticket-buying action movie crowd.
The setting is in Paris where government hit man Kevin Costner is back in the killing biz. Which is bad news for the bad guys.
Sure he’d promised his estranged wife and daughter he was done with the dirty business for good.
Just one problem.
Costner is diagnosed with a terminal disease and the agency wants him to pull off just one more job.
The incentive?
They dangle an experimental, potentially life-saving drug in exchange for that one last mission. It’s an offer Costner can’t refuse.
Costner juggling his two toughest assignments yet: Going after one of the world’s most ruthless terrorists while caring for his daughter (Hailee Steinfeld) for the first time in nearly a decade—not to mention his estranged wife played by Connie Nielsen.
And then there’s a family of squatters who’ve taken over Costner’s Paris apartment – he just can’t win for losing.
As stated at up top, a lot of the action stuff has a parody feel and the movie itself doesn’t offer anything new we haven’t seen far too many times before.
And Costner’s sexy contact babe with the agency, Amber Heard, is totally over the top. But damn is she HOT…..
So who directed this easily forgettable cinematic masterpiece?
None other than McG who gave us CHARLIE’S ANGELS and CHARLIE’S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE and TERMINATOR SALVATION.
In all fairness to McG, he also brought us the dramatic WE ARE MARSHALL with Matthew McConaughey and David Strathairn back in 2006.
As for Kevin Costner, this is just one of his five new movies out this year. He’s apparently enjoying a second lease on (Hollywood) life after the History Channel’s hit series, Hatfields & McCoys, which earned him a Golden Globe AND an Emmy.
No awards are in the wings though for 3 DAYS TO KILL which barely grades out a C-
