“And the worst part about losing this job is that I’m no longer covered by NBC, now I’ll have to sign up for ObamaCare.”
Jay Leno‘s final joke….
Always one for a good conspiracy, is there something more sinister going on here than a mere retirement? Maybe I’m just always skeptical of things and seldom buy the “official” story.
But something just doesn’t add up about Jay Leno’s retiring.
Why replace the host of the most successful late night show in terms of ad revenue generated and ratings? Nor does Mr. Leno appear to be all that happy about leaving the show.
Could it be that Leno’s “mainstreaming” of the criticism of the Obama Administration on NBC – the Democratic Party’s chief propaganda network – is to blame for him walking the plank? Not to mention that former NBC parent company General Electric‘ CEO is one of the Obama’s biggest cheerleaders.
And that current NBC owner Comcast donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the President’s 2012 re-election campaign.
Even former late night host, Arsenio Hall, questions Jay’s departure:
“Why is NBC getting rid of the number one guy?” Hall asks, adding that Leno is the “Michael Jordan of late night.”
I know that on occasion Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live skewer the President, but nothing approaching the barbs thrown by Mr. Leno. And on sensitive issues like Benghazi, the Affordable Care Act, NSA spying and the IRS scandals, Leno has been absolutely vicious in his criticism of the President.
Sometimes in such a harsh tone you would think the jokes were written by the Republican National Committee. Of course, that can’t be the case because the RNC doesn’t have a sense of humor.
And Jay’s peers like David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and his replacement, Jimmy Fallon are comparatively silent in their criticism of the Prez. Although sometimes Jimmy Kimmel lets Obama have it.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” the old adage goes.
And clearly the Tonight Show hosted by Jay Leno was far from broken.
Leno’s demographics are the same as Fox News’; i.e., 65-dead. That’s why the jokes skewed that way, and why NBC forced him out. He didn’t attract the target audience advertisers want. Fallon will.
You watched the “Sex In The City” marathon during the Super Bowl, fell asleep with “Manufacturing Consent” by Chomsky in your lap and dreamed of Canadian Health Care. Some day, you wanna live by the water.
Some day, I want to understand what the hell you’re talking about.
*LOL* right?
Yea, its not hard to figure. Carson was still popular when they pushed him out too. But the demos were skewing older, and he was facing increased competition from “hipper” rivals who appealed to younger audiences. For Carson it was Arsenio, for Leno its Kimmel/Conan/Stewart/Colbert.
NBC also didn’t want to lose Fallon, he’s getting to the point where Fox or someone would likely have offered him a boatload of money to get in the competition. That’s why NBC tried to push Leno out the first time, to keep from losing Conan to Fox.
I’m not sure how well Arsenio ever did…
I think for Carson, it was more about David Letterman and fear of the unknown…Leno for instance if they’d hired Letterman instead and Leno had gone to CBS or elsewhere
I always heard that the NBC brass thought Leno’s appeal was far stronger in Flyover Country (that’s us) and less so in NYC, Boston, LA, etc.
He was always #1 in NY LA Chicago Dallas Miami… These are top 5 markets. Leno appealed to all and he always strived to make the most amount of people laugh. You can call that selling out or whatever but he was always true to what he did.
It’s unreal he is thrown out on top, lets see if he is back for a third time.
Fox news draws more folks in the 20-55 demographic than any other cable new network. Leno drew more in the 19-49 demographic than Letterman or Kimmel. So, are you intellectually deficient of dishonest?
Hey counselor, glad to see you back on KCC.
I think rkcal’s thought’s on Leno hitting the wrong demographics is more of a legitimate reason than him bagging on Obama. Sitting presidents have always been targets and Leno skewered Clinton a helluva lot more than he ever did the O Man.
Don’t be a stranger.
Conan couldn’t put up numbers on the board last go around, what’s makes us think Fallon will be any different?
figures…the right wing nuts are back!!!!
and this guy fits the bill perfectly.
leno made no more jokes about Obama than even stewart did.
How many times did you see flotus and potus on leno….maybe
6 times total…you ever see bush on leno (I can’t remember him
being on there ever while in office).
Glad you’re back dude. Its been pretty obring on here with Wilson
and glaze and hearne with his “media” stories…so having you
back brings a big old laugh to all of us who know you’re just another
right wing conspiracy guy.
Whats next…? Your first story back…after you made a compplege
fool of yourself during every election (remember you prediction….mitt
in a landslide?) hahahahahahaha
So now you expect us to swallow this fable.
come on whinery…you should be jumpingfor joy…singing songs..
smiling like a big cheese….BECAUSE YOUR GIRL HILLARY IS
RUNNING STRAIGHT TO THE WHITE HOUSE. I REMEMBER
YOU SUPPORTED HER….WHAT HAPPENED?
Now…tell us the date Christie does the perp walk? tell us the date
and time wildsteiin (a member of our tribe) lets the big fat man
get the big knife stuck to him….tell us how many millions of dollars
your boy Christie illegally funneled to non sandy relief projects.
You’re a card whinery….glad to have you back…
youre actually funnier than any of lenos monologues and without
you who can we get a big old laugh from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
your friend
Harley….
oh…lets hear about your girl Hillary…any new conspiracies there dude???????????
I’m not voting for her.
fallon will be good…but he’s more a theme comedian than leno.
Hopefully fallon keeps the photo booth and some of the other
funny stuff that leno did.
dlubt it..but fallon is a hip funny guy. But I think the demo
they’re looking for might not come to him so quickly.
That young demo that they’re wanting fallon to draw has so
many other things going on at night…texting/facebook/texting/facebook/
smart phones/video games/texting…it might be harder to get that
young demo they want fallon to bring in to quickly jump on the
show.
Should be interesting but fallon has big shoes to fill….theres lots
of late night hosts going after that young market…Chelsea/arsenio/
etc…
but good luck to him…
my media sources say the real reason fallon is on is because he’s
part of an nsa plot of surveillance. Right whinery!!!!!!!
Happy Teabagger Friday, y’all!
Hundreds of thousands of dollars? OMG!
hearne….tell us first hand your story with leno…saw it on
wdaf site…..you met the guy…was he cool as he appears…
that’s what we want from kcc….inside edition…..tmz…the
stuff no other site has….
bring it on hearne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fallon is funny, but I think it will just be very different.
NBC should be happy with Fallons politics though, that is what counts I guess.
The change has ZERO to do with politics, in spite of what baggers like Whiney say. It has to do with a host earning $80K per show while attracting an audience that skews too old for advertisers.
Who even watches the Tonight Show anymore? Getting rid of Leno because he does jokes at the expense of the president, yeah right….Isn’t that what Carson did for years and years…..?
