Nice payday for a senior thesis, eh? But that’s just the beginning.
Egads Theater Company offers up the first (in my memory) KC production of the Broadway bomb CARRIE: THE MUSICAL (tonight thru Nov 2 at Off Center Theatre in Crown Center). This stage adaptation of the Stephen King horrorshow boasts music by Dean Pitchford, who collaborated with a slew of rock writers on “Footloose,” “Almost Paradise” and a string of KY and KUDL hits.
The Kauffman Center hosts Green Day‘s Broadway musical AMERICAN IDIOT for three shows Jan 11-12. The Little K continues to rock with the Tony nominated BRING IT ON (Feb 11-16), propelled by a hip hop score from freestyle rapper (and Tony Award winner) Lynn Manuel Miranda.
Even those rocking aces BARE NAKED LADIES have caught the theater bug, though I doubt they’ll be reprising any tunes from their score for Shakespeare’s AS YOU LIKE IT at their upcoming gig at the Uptown (Thur, Oct 10). That show went down a few years back at Canada’s Stratford Festival. BNL lead singer Steven Page told one scribe “it’s a gift” to write music with William Shakespeare–Page’s lyricist on the project.
Who knew the Bard could rock?
To avoid confusion if anyone is going to the show, Steven Page hasn’t been in Barenaked Ladies for four years.
