Finally the suspense is back at the Oscars!
Sunday night’s 85th annual edition of Hollywood’s annual love fest is tighter than many of the stretched faces that’ll be on parade. We haven’t seen a slugfest like this in years.
Like in the BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR category, Phillip Seymour Hoffman‘s THE MASTER is running a tight race with Tommy Lee Jones in LINCOLN.
I’m putting my chips on Jones.
Yet for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS—No competition. My money is on Anne Hathaway for LE MISERABLES
BEST ACTOR category also has no competition this year. That Oscar will go to Daniel Day Lewis for LINCOLN.
But it’s a different story when it comes to BEST ACTRESS. It’s Sally Field for LINCOLN versus Jennifer Lawrence in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK.
My money is on Ms. Lawrence.
Here’s where it gets dicey.
In the BEST DIRECTOR category, it’s a three-way race between Ang Lee for LIFE OF PI vs. David O. Russell‘s SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and Steven Spielberg‘s LINCOLN.
This is the glaring category in which Ben Affleck was omitted for ARGO.
My money is on Spielberg—even though I would’ve put it on Affleck had he been nominated.
Finally for BEST PICTURE it’s almost a dead heat between ARGO and LINCOLN.
But can ARGO win with Affleck missing out on a BEST DIRECTOR nomination?
Not in my book since a film’s director and movie tend to go hand-in-hand.
At least most of the time.
That’s why my money is on LINCOLN.
But whatever YOU do, don’t take my picks to the bank—and you’ll probably be money ahead.
The 85th annual Academy Awards hosted by Seth MacFarlane airs Sunday on ABC.
