In a bold move, President Barack Obama says he’s ALL FOR GAY MARRIAGE…
Some may think this was merely a political move to stay out front of Republican challenger Mitt Romney. The Republican candidate immediately jumped on it and said, "Marriage is between a man and a woman only!"
And with Obama is only slightly ahead in the polls that matter – far from where he’s been in the past – many think this will be a very close race. Most observers feel the President’s position on gay marriage will not help him much and in fact, may cost him valuable support.
Let’s face it, this much of this nation still leans away from gays getting married. Me, I say live and let live. If two people want to marry that are of the same sex, and it doesn’t hurt anybody else, let it be.
Besides, those divorce cases will be a hoot!
If Obama wins – and I think he’s still unbeatable barring a major turn of events or scandal – he will likely one day go down as a great president. I know many of you don’t agree, but he will probably get credit for STOPPING A MAJOR DEPRESSION, ENDING THE WAR, KILLING OSAMA BIN LADEN & GETTING HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYBODY.
Yep, it all will have happened on his watch and that’s how it works.
The bad news is the economy is still weak, money is tight for most people and jobs are scarce. Good ones that pay anyway. However, he wasn’t the president that got us into this mess.
The best thing the President has going in this race is Mitt Romney himself, a major millionaire, who was born into money. Mitt has little first hand knowledge of economic pressures a family faces. He doesn’t have a strong platform, other than to attack Obama and fingerpoint. His saying, I will fix this economic nightmare is simply talk, there seems to be no plan.
I think all these economic issues are simply going to take time – years unfortunately.
Hey, with Obama behind gay marriage, can legalizing marijuana be far behind?
The truth is both of these will happen, but like the troubled economy, it will take years.
Its hard to tell who is more disingenuous…..
…the Republicans or the Democrats when it comes to announcements, faux announcements and carefully crafted non-speak.
On Wednesday, there was a major story about gay donors boycotting the Obama campaign. (news.firedoglake.com/…/gay-donors-begin-boycotting-obama-camp) Pretty ugly story.
Then, we have Biden
Marry Go Round
So we go from Adam and Eve to Adam and Steve, then Molly will want to marry her collie and Tony his pony. I’m all for civil unions and letting butt pirates and rug munchers have all the respect and legal entitlements that married people do. Once you open the barn door to gay marriage it makes it more difficult, legally, to stop all other forms of marriage. It’s a heavily lubricated slope.
Simple solution to problem;
TAKE NOTE BUREAUCRAT CRITTERS.
Marriage is an institution created by churches, government should not be in the business of marriage- period.
Government should be instituting common law unions with these unions being equivalent to marriage in the eyes of the government.
This sidesteps the whole gay marriage issue with benefits and such because a union is then equal legally to marriage.
Bam, problem solved.
Dude is right
Marriage is too important to be left to government.
And then Obama tops off his message with Joe Biden made me do it.
Of course Mitt has been a homophobe since he was a kid.

To all those politicians out there, a message:
You can’t even run your own life, I’ll be damned if you’ll run mine…
Still Bush’s Fault
Really Glaser, the economy is still Bush’s fault, after over 3 years?
I don’t have any issues with the whole gay marriage thing, but to come out of the closet and say you agree within months of the election, give me a fucking break. Those who have read about Obama’s voting record know he was against gay marriage before he was for it then against it again and finally for it. That’s worse flip flopping than Al “internet inventor” Gore.
common law marriages only, really dude, really?
I know that is a libertarian talking point (Party platform: we don’t need no stinkin’ sewers or fire departments!) that “government should get out of the marriage game” but the results would be bad.
If you re-instate common law marriage it hurts people who choose to cohabitate but not marry. It would actually hurt things since people’s sharing of a common roof would enter themselves into a marriage if they held themselves out to the public as a couple. It would discourage men and women who have children out of wedlock to raise children together. More children will end up without two parents in their life if shacking up with the baby-momma results in you getting a ring shoved on your finger by the government.
Common law marriage dates back to a time when the courthouse or nearest judge was hours away by horse and people ‘married’ first and made it official later. It is a relic of a bygone time and there is a reason why it is abolished in 40 states and the ones that have it are very rural.
You misunderstand,
A civil union would be different from common law marriage. Common law marriage happens when two people cohabilitate for a specified amount of time without legally marrying. A civil union would be applied for and administered much in the same way marriage would be done but the government would be administering it instead of MARRYING people. Legally a civil union would be THE SAME as church marriage in the eyes of the government. LGBT would be able to do it (civil union) and churches would not be able to oppose it and spouses would be able to receive death benefits and insurance, etc.
Marriage is a religious institution and should stay that way, this has nothing to do with Librarianism, this is a state/church issue.
It’s 2012 and the sun still comes up in the east, sets
in the west and douchebag democrats and douchebag republicans are all still douchbags. Neither of these parties gives two sh$#s about the American people. Both parties and most of the politicians which make up the parties care first and foremost about self preservation. They then rationalize their actions by saying that they alone are best equipped to meet the needs and solve the problems of the American people. It’s all crap. Republicans care more about corporations than people and Democrats want to keep the thumb of the federal government on people’s backs so that everyone forever “needs” them. Meanwhile, everyone is too damn chicken to vote for someone like Ron Paul who actually wants to reverse the unsustainable course that we’re on towards governmental implosion. It’s amazing how the media brands Rep Paul’s comments about the Federal Reserve or excessive spending as looney while the same media ignores warrantless wiretaps by both Bush and Obama and shrugs its collective shoulders at the abuses which occur as government contracts are doled out.
Those that cry out about the directions were heading are branded as ‘Chicken Littles’ or negators or uneducated, yet there is unrefutable historical evidence that economic powers/cultures/societies such as we are have always, I repeat ALWAYS, have fallen from grace with a resounding thud. Closing your eyes to the truth does not eliminate the truth.
While Obama and Romney play political footsie waxing philosophic about homosexuals, America is crumbling. Whether or not gays and lesbians can marry, join in civil union, or otherwise, won’t matter two bits when inflation shoots through the roof, the dollar crumbles, China owns everything and civil rights and privacy have all been flushed down the crapper in the name of “safety” from the big bad terrorists.
Good article again Glaze.
Even better, every single comment, agree or disagree is excellent in my opinion.

Well, as a former stock and commodities broker, most economists recognize that it took years to get into this mess and it’s not gonna get cured overnight. Especially with the Tea Party types killing Obama’s jobs plan, etc.
He’s not King, he’s only president.
But think how bad things were and much much worse they undoubtedly would have gotten w/o the bailout, saving GM, etc. There’s no arguing that the Bush years hemorrhaging has been stopped, and the recovery has been slow, but it’s still been improving.
He’s not KING, just PRESIDENT? He thought he was GOD!!
Read the megalomaniacal last lines in his acceptance speech!!!:
” I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. This was the moment – this was the time – when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves, and our highest ideals”
You want to tell me someone with THOSE POWERS could be sidelined by ANYTHING George Bush could have done? He was going to SLOW THE OCEANS, Hearne!! This was the MOMENT the PLANET began to HEAL! Dont dare tell me Bush left the US is such a horrible state that this douche bag couldn’t get on with healing the PLANET and slowing oceans!! If you listen to his speech, he’s got SUPER HERO powers!!
You really think that little bumpkin from Texas could get in HIS WAY???
Good Lord……
Hearne, you’re right that he’s not King, but Obama
darn sure would like to be. Post 9/11, Bush wasn’t any better in this regard.
It might seem a bit laughable at first blush, but you could make a fair argument that if only we could have maintained Vice Admiral James Stockdale’s “gridlock” through the Clinton and Bush II eras the partisan actions on both sides of the aisle (which laid the groundwork for the economic mess we’re in) might have stalled and we wouldn’t be where we are today.
Poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king
Spending counterfeit incentive
Wasting precious time and health
Placing value on the worthless
Disregarding priceless wealth
You can wheel and deal the best of them
And steal it from the rest of them
You know the score, their ethics are a bore
Eighty-six anesthetic crutches prop you to the top
Where the smiles are all synthetic
And the ulcers never stop
When they take that final inventory,
Yours will be the same sad story everywhere
No one will really care, no one more lonely than
This rich important man, let’s have your autograph
Endorse your epitaph

OBAMA WAS NOT THE FIRST
Dick Cheney had the exact same stance years ago and it was not an awe inspiring moment.
Bojangles, Dick has it because of his daughter…
he was pro gay marriage before it was cool
If this gay marriage happens
maybe Hearne and Craig will elope and leave town for good. Then have young boys watching them do the dirty. I recently ran across a list of Craigs wish for job opportunties.
5-Become Travolta’s personal massage partner.
4-Have a movie made of my fictional life (not going to heppen)
3-Be an owner of top comedy club in the UNIVERSE.
2-Learn to spell without spell check or Hearne.
and the number one job wish.
1-Take Nick Wright’s radio position but sadly they won’t return my phone calls and my buddy Johhny Dare refuses to help me out.
