Jack Goes Confidential: ‘MARGIN CALL’; Greed Is Good—Until It Implodes

Fans of American business classics like GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS and WALL STREET are in for a treat!

MARGIN CALL is an excellent thriller set in one 24 hour cycle during the 2008 Wall Street meltdown. It revolves around a number of key players at a major investment bank on the brink of imminent chaos and collapse.

It’s a real Wall Street nailbiter delving into the actions and reactions of the people who choreographed those complex financial schemes and whose after effects continue to blight the lives of tens of millions of their fellow citizens.

What makes it so compelling is it’s told through their eyes. From their point of view and almost makes you feel for them and root for these flim-flam artists as they dump huge chuncks of worthless assets on unsuspecting customers—many of whom will go bust so that the firm can survive.

It’s convincing, complelling—-and scary as hell!

MARGIN CALL offers yet another great performance by Kevin Spacey as a mid level manager who’s got to hold the troops together while boss man Jeremy Irons rules over the meltdown in ice cold fashion with a smile on his face.

Also impressive here Paul Bettany, Stanley Tucci, Penn Badgley, Mary McDonnell and Demi Moore.
It’s definitely an absorbing thriller torn from the very recent past.

Shades of Enron, anyone?

MARGIN CALL where the motto is: Be First. Be Smarter—Or Cheat.
Raising 4 out of 5 sticky fingers.

    best actor
Read that Kevin Spacey may pick up another oscar nominations for this film. I think he’s probably the best American male actor in the movies. Meryl Streep the best female. Any thoughts?

    Toffee’s For Loser’s
Jack-Jack-Jack. Don’t even THINK Wall Street in the same thought with GGR. That’s like comparing a Cadillac Seville to a Mercedes AMG.

Anyone who has or had a REAL sales job worships at the altar of GGR. Don’t make that mistake again or YOU OWE ME A FUCKING CADILLAC.

I’m with Gene on Kevin Spacey. His body of work is incredible AND he does a BITCHIN’ impersonation of Christopher Walken.

Ever since I saw Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep swapping tongue above their dangling waddles in Bridges of Madison County I get ill whenever I see her.

There’s a new Senior Porn movie being released tomorrow, 69 and Still 69-ing.

First prize is a fuckin Caddy, 2nd prize, steak knives
    3rd Prize, your fuckin fired!!!!

At my age, EVERYBODY’S fuckin watch, cost more than my car.

    GGR, yep.

    Remember “Boiler Room?” Pretty good.

Hey I saw “Margin Call”, really thought it was great. Jack is dead on.

Now, it ain’t GGR, but its still a great flick in my opinion.

I like Spacey too, but I gotta tell ya, I see everything Baldwin is in.

Remember the speech he gave in “Malice?” I fuckin love a guy who don’t get sick at sea.

    🙂

    Sounds Great Guys
Nice to see some good adult films coming out again, maybe Hollywood will turn back to fine pictures not just family, low brow comedy and tent pole movies, seems we are on the move with this film, Hoover and others, good.

  5. Hearne Christopher says:

Fancy that; Craig excited to see a good “adult” film

  6. Hearne says:

Add my name to the small slagheap that liked this film a lot
It’s very dark however. Unfortunately, I opted to make it a date night movie.
