Friday’s opening of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS-PART 2 raised the bar for Hollywood tentpoles by grossing a massive $92.1 million at North America’s boxoffices.
A good part of that huge number came courtesy of the blockbuster Friday 12:01 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. "midnight" shows which saw record-breaking ticket sales of $43.5 million.
HP8 is now on track to score a whopping $180 million-PLUS in its initial 3 day domestic opening weekend
By comparison THE DARK KNIGHT set the previous North American 3-day opening record of $158 million in 2008.
Overseas, where HP8 got a 2-day jump start over its U.S. opening, the film enjoyed a $75 million Friday bringing its initial total global take (3 days international and 1 day domestic) to a whopping $249.6 million.
Exit polling at theatres throughout the country indicate high audience approval of the film and exhibitors are already reporting high numbers of repeat business.
So may the Force—make that the Wizard—be with you!
