Fasten your seatbelts! You’re not in Radiator Springs anymore!
In CARS 2, Disney’s Pixar Animation unleashes a clever and very busy case of mistaken identity as spunky race car Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his tow-truck buddy Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) head to capitals around the globe to compete in the World Grand Prix. To once and for all determine who’s the fastest car on the planet.
But the road to the finish line is filled with plenty of potholes—not to mention intrigue and espionage.
Yes folks, director John Lasseter has turned the Cars franchise into a spy thriller on wheels!
Who would’ve seen it coming? Mater hitting Tokyo, London, Paris and Rome while becoming caught up in a global spy conspiracy!
James Bond anyone?
Almost, as Michael Caine joins the proceedings playing British spy Finn McMissle along with his sidekick Holley Shiftwell voiced by Emily Mortimer.
To be absolutely truthful, the original CARS was never quite in the same ballpark as TOY STORY, but definitely still in franchise territory. So what do we get here with its first sequel?
A fast-moving cinematic world tour and adventure that doesn’t quite sport the charm of the original.
But make no mistake about # 2 is squarely MATER’S movie!
As for the 3-D?
It’s good but really not necessary. So when trying to choose between seeing it in standard 2-D or in the 3-D process, I say save the upcharge dollars. Besides the picture on the screen will be brighter!
Rounding out the G-rated cast are John Turturro as formula champ Francesco Bernoulli, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Joe Mantegna, John Ratzenberger, Vanessa Redgrave, Bruce Campbell, Jeff Gordon and Eddie Izzard as the voice of race sponsor Miles Axlerod who’s promoting his new alternative fuel, Allinol.
3-1/2 out of 5 gas-guzzling fingers for Disney/Pixar’s all-CAR cast: CARS 2!
