In the next couple years it’s coming to a hand on your body. The one thing everyone will have, carry, love and hate – all at the same time – in one simple package.
What looks like an iPhone will in fact become, well, central to everything in your life. The UNIT, will still work as a cell phone and micro computer for calling and texting. However the UNIT will have everything about YOU in it or on it. Your I.D., as in your drivers license, Passport, social security card, insurance information, your credit cards, criminal history (well, mine anyway), birth certificate, car registration.
I think you get the picture – your entire life, finally, in one spot on one device.
Is this a good thing? Yes and no.
Yes because it means no more wallets, back pockets, lost credit cards, "forgot my drivers license," your passport and the like. Not sure I like the criminal history part, but for the average person it will likely just include include your driving record, tickets, wrecks, so forth.

So we all become a one stop shop.
Easy to carry, less likely to be lost. And even if you do break or lose it, no problem. Just get a new one. It will even have your bank account and checks information and an ATM enabler for getting cash.
What a marvel – Big Brother finally wins!
The government’s got everything about you and everything you own in one spot. So good and bad. Our lives reduced to a single, tiny device. That’s the near future, count on it.
Oh yeah, you’ll still be able to watch a movie or TV show, how great is that!

Bill Joy, the Sun Microsystem guy wrote a really cool article, and some of his prescience has stood the test of time.
Much of it didn’t.
Unless your Laplace’s Demon, there are too many variables to predict accurately the future, and how it will look, except in very broad terms.
We are NOT controlled by robots (Although the mechanisms and technology in place, well…) and we are not all stting around doing nothing thanks to technology.
Its a great article and if you look at his predictions (Some keyed on the year 2011) and look at the reality, well, pretty cool.
He also says, in 2026, robots become self aware, like SkyNet.
Never happen like that, intrinsic knowledge of what you are, when realized, makes it impossible for an inatimte object, no matter how sophisticated, to para sympathetically and sypathetically recact to envitonment in the way that humas do, imo.
Glaze is probably right about the Orwellian control of our lives and movements by the govt.
