Okay, I have your weekend all mapped out for you…
It’s going to start off with a high energy, sweaty romp with a bunch of college kids. Nice, right? Next comes KU beating Mizzou’s ass in their own house.
Then we finish it all off with a trusty troubadour and a cocktail at the best looking bar in KC.
You’re welcome. All you have to do is show up….

Tapes ‘n Tapes at the Jackpot Saloon in Lawrence
This Minneapolis band started off humbly enough with the release of their first full album in 2005, “The Loon,” which was recorded in a week at a friend’s house. Not long after, people started taking notice, and by 2006 the band had a deal to re-release the album on the XL Recordings label. For those that don’t know, XL Recordings is home to a little band called Radiohead, as well as Beck, Vampire Weekend, M.I.A., and The White Stripes, among others. So yeah, it was kind of a big deal. They’re touring now on the recently released, “Outside,” an album that the band says is “finally what we’ve always wanted.”

Howard Iceberg and the Titanics at Jardine’s in KC
If you’ve been around KC for awhile and haven’t yet caught Howard Iceberg in a crusty, dark bar, now is your chance. Well, minus the dark and crusty part – this show is at Jardine’s and starts at 3. Iceberg has been revered in the local scene as a sort of champion of grit for his relentless songwriting and straight forward approach. No gimmicks, no tricks, just Americana folk rock wrenched from the heart of a musical philosopher – and one of the best backing bands around. So now you have a legit reason to be drunk by 5.
Hey man, great to see Tapes n’ Tapes highlighted here. We filmed this video (http://vimeo.com/18825097) with them a couple of months ago. pass it around if you like it. Glad to know KC Confidential is here promoting good stuff.
Uh, bad news for Titanic fans
Just got an email from Beena at Jardine’s and both the Iceberg and the Titanics are sunk for Saturday’s show. Something about Howard being under the weather. Next time…
