New Jack City: Oscar Nominations in Line with Predictions

No big surprises in this morning’s announcements of the 83rd Academy Awards nominations…

Leading the pack with 12 nominations is THE KING’S SPEECH followed by 10 for TRUE GRIT and 8 each for THE SOCIAL NETWORK and INCEPTION.

For my money there only 3 tight races this year!

They’re in the BEST PICTURE catagory where THE KING’S SPEECH could split the vote with THE SOCIAL NETWORK.
Ditto for the BEST ACTOR catagory where Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) will be fighting it out with Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network.)
And in the BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR catagory where it’s a toss-up between Christian Bale (The Fighter) and Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech.)

I was thrilled to see TRUE GRIT’s 10 nominations.

Especially in the major catagories including Best Picture, Best Actor: Jeff Bridges, Best Supporting Actress: Hailee Steinfeld, Best Director: The Coen Brothers and Best Adapted Screenplay.

That after the lame GOLDEN GLOBE’s (a.k.a. The Pia Zadora Memorial Awards) had totally overlooked this fine film in favor of such turkey’s like THE TOURIST and BURLESQUE.

    Agree on Golden Globe awards
You’re absolutely right about those stupid golden Globe awards. Those foreign press idiots should all be deported or become facebook friends with Shawn Edwards.

    And the award goes to…….
THESE PREDICTIONS ARE NOT based on who I think should (NOR WHO I WANT TO) win, these predictions based on who will win based on the fact that the Acadamy members are a bunch of ivory tower assholes….. but still it is fun to play.

    Interesting Picks—-B U T…..
    Hey Carnac,
I agree with most of your winner predictions—even about your assessment of many Academy members.
But in two catagories I think you’re way off.
In the best supporting actor catagory I think it’s almost even money between Christian Bale and Geoffrey Rush—with the scale tipping in Chris Bale’s favor.
And in the best actress catagory I would predict for Natalie Portman to be the solid SURE BET!

….but then again, I could be wrong 🙂 Jack P.

    Hi Jack : )
    Hi Jack,
I think the Academy may still punish Natalie for being in Star Wars, this is not my opinion of Natalie, it is not what I would do, I liked Natalie in that (for what it was, it shows her range)…. ( heck imuho I think Natalie has been great in everything she has done from “Leon” to “Beautiful Girls” to “V for Vendetta” to everything, she is beautiful and talented and HOT!!! ) I just think the warped Academy works funny (but then again they may give it to her for the G/L aspect, and her long re’sume) …….
    and….
Using the same crazy Hollywood logic, I think they may still be unhappy with (and punish) Bale for his now famous tirade against the lighting man on the set of T4. ……. But I will defer to the great Jack P, and I am serious about that. I have respected your silver screen opinion (along with your other opinions) since 1978, because I know, that you know, more about this stuff than I.

I just love the movies, and films too…. and I always enjoy hearing what you think, Thanks Jack.
