GH: We have all witnessed Old Man Momentum turn around a game. But I do not recall OMM ever jamming his tranny into reverse with more ferocity than during Mizzou’s seemingly game-clinching fourth-quarter drive. Tyus-Edney devastating is not too strong of a description for what we witnessed.

"I just got greedy."
Blaine Gabbert, via @Dave_Matter on Twitter
GH: Gabbert’s throw had nothing to do with greed. It had to do with smarts. Football smarts. The one piece of the Mizzou junior’s game that has bothered me. He sure looks to have everything else the NFL covets. For almost all of the other 85 MU offensive plays he was brilliant and the best player on the field. But sports rewards winners. Gabbert will simply be remembered as the goat.

“Turning point: Hmmmm … how about Hyde’s 72-yard pick-six with 5:32 left in the game and Iowa looking dead in the water? Bingo. Although Gabbert made his only awful decision in an otherwise brilliant night, Hyde deserves credit for jumping the route and making a brilliant return up the sideline for the touchdown.”
Adam Rittenberg, writer, ESPN.com
GH: Hyde’s return was the kind of stuff that Iowa fans will recall decades from now. Maybe longer. It was a brilliant cut-back run that laterally traversed the field and appeared doomed a number of times. One thing I noticed while watching the replay was that Gabbert made no effort to run Hyde down, despite having an excellent angle. Instead, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound QB took himself out of the play when he curiously dove at the knees of an Iowa lineman. It was the kind of dive you see an NFL QB take when they’re looking to avoid contact to prevent an injury. It was disturbing to watch.

“My 2 favorite responses after a Mizzou loss…1) Trash talk from KU and KSU fans…Really? 2) Mizzou fans wanting Pinkel fired. I mean, seriously….Was it really Pinkel’s fault Gabbert threw that pass? Mizzou had the game under control…The pick lost the game.”
Steven St. John, Twitter
GH: Yes, the timing of Gabbert’s Pick 6 cost MU the win but MU’s defense took the first half off. Pinkel again was unable to have his team ready to play in a bowl. Blaming Gabbert for the loss and not Pinkel is crazy. Gabbert was THE reason Mizzou came back from a 17-3 deficit and THE reason they led 24-20.

GH: In my opinion 90% of the replay officials do not overturn Moe’s catch – from the replays we saw on ESPN. But maybe the booth got a better close-up view of the ball hitting the turf – which it appeared it did.

“Missouri would have been in field-goal range had the catch held up, but an excellent camera angle showed the ball hitting the ground and moving. I’m still surprised the officials ended up overturning the call on the field because of indisputable video evidence, but it looked like they made the right decision.”

GH: I wanted Moe’s catch to stand and keep Mizzou’s drive alive. I thought from the first replays we saw and how Moe was reacting during the booth’s review they would allow the catch. But the longer the review lasted the more concerned I became. Read on.

GH: I love that football has adopted replay. It too often doesn’t have the guts to right a wrong only because it would overturn what an official on the field ruled. It is in place to ensure the outcome is correct, not merely the result of human error. Sure it took ten minutes but they got the call right. It didn’t go the way I wanted but it went the right way. Moe did not catch that pass cleanly. To rule otherwise would have been wrong.

IOOOOOWAAAAA!!!!
The word is “Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA!”, let every loyal Iowan sing! The word is “Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA,” until the walls and rafters ring! GO HAWKS!
That’s what I’m talking ’bout.
I thought Moe caught it. But it was close. There seemed to be no reason to overturn the call on the field.
Still, the interception was bigger.
As a Kansas fan I generally enjoy watching Mizzou lose.
But they disappointed me tonight. The interception was much bigger than the Moe review. Shouldn’t have happened.
AGAIN….YES AGAIN…HARLEY/JOJO WAS RIGHT!
While the amatuer writers and know nothing scribes continue to embarrass themselves
with inane writings and stupid predictions…one thing remains constant…..
HARLEY/JOJO WAS RIGHT AGAIN!
I wrote on this very site that Missouri would lose to Iowa. As a Missouri fan I was concerned
with Gary Pinkels inability to keep his teams motivated for the 4-5 weeks between the
last regular game and the bowl game….and sure enough we saw it again last night.
I knew immediately that Missouri would lose…because pinkels record as head coach was
suspect in bowl games. And everyone on here fought me on it. He just has a problem keeping
his players focused on football for the long break before a bowl game.
And this was even further accented when the stories about 4 MU players being considered for
the NFL draft was put out. It became a huge topic in columbia as the chance of gabbert
leaving became the dominant topic for mu fans. Pinkel should have immediately squashed
any talk about this and for the other 3 players who were considering entering the draft.
MU should have rolled over Iowa. That was evident. But the long layoff has killed pinkel
and will continue to as long as he fails to adjust training and work out schedules to fit
the long period between games.
So while all you people fought me…so while we heard from so called “experts”
about this game….and while everyone seemed to disagree with me that MU would
have serious problems with the Iowa team….one thing remains the fact….
ONCE AGAIN…HARLEY/JOJO WAS RIGHT.
ONCE AGAIN…HARLEY/JOJO WAS ON THE MONEY
ONCE AGAIN…HARLEY/JOJO SHOWED WHAT REAL FOOT BALL ANALYSIS ENTAILS
AND HOW TO CORRECTLY AND WITHOUT PREJUDICE….BRING ALL THE FACTORS
OF THE GAME INTO FOCUS AND TO WRITE INSIGHTFUL AND 100% CORRECT
ITEMS THAT ARE BASED ON FACTS AND ACTUAL DATA…
MU HAD A GREAT YEAR…ALTHOUGH IT WAS TYPICAL OF THE INABILITY TO
WIN BIG GAMES IN CONSECUTIVE WEEKS…….AND TO BEABLE TO GET
SOME BREAKS LIKE THE INCOMPLETE PASS CALL WHICH WILL BE DEBATED
FOR DECADES.
MIZZ-ZOU….GABBERTS RIGHT…NEXT YEAR…ITS THE BCS WHILE UNCLE TOM TURNER
GILL AND HIS HAPPLESS KEYSTONE COP ROUTINE CONTINUES IN LAWRENCE!
AND DON’T FORGET THIS MU BBALL TEAM…………THEY’RE MOVING UP!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

DATA AND FACTS AND TO BASE MY PREDICTIONS ON THIS INFORMATION.
THANKS FOR BACKING ME UP ON CRITICAL ISSUES AND POSTS AND FOR
BEING MY FANS DESPITE ATTACKS FROM PHONY POSTERS.
To my detractors/opponents:
DONT DOUBT ME….I KNOW THE FACTS AND I SPEAK THE TRUTH. WHEN
FACED WITH HARD CALLS I KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE SMART PREDICTIONS
AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE WRITINGS AND POSTS ARE BACKED UP WITH
ESSENTIAL FACTS AND STATS.
i have been ahead of the curve on a few posts…but I am right more times than these so called
sports “experts”………
HAPPY NEW YEAR………SEE YA IN 2011!
SINCERELY………HARLEY………….
HALL….STOP THE MADNESS…..
You said nothing nice about josh freeman. Said he wouldnt make it in pros. Said he
made some bad decisions (including going to kstate)……AND LOOK WHAT HE’S
DOING NOW IN THE NFL…..
You say bad things about gabbert along with OMAR SHARIFF………say his
decision making is bad….etc…etc…
PLEASE….GABBERT HAS AN INCREDIBLE ARM….SHOWED IT THIS YEAR…
AND WHILE YOU’RE WRITING STORIES ON KCC HE’S MAKING BIG BUCKS
AS NFL QUARTERBACK.
HE’S RATED THE 2ND B EST QB INTHIS DRAFT….AFTER CAM NEWTON….
NOT BAD.
AGAIN…YOUR ANALYSIS IS BASED ON FACTS CONJURED UP WHILE EATING
DORITOS AND SALSA ON YOUR COUCH. YOU MUST HAVE MISSED GABBERTS
SEASON OR WERE TOO BUSY TRYING TO RUN THE GUY DOWN…..
OR YOU HAVE NO ABILITY TO ANALYZE TALENT EXCEPT TO CUT DOWN
OTHER MEDIAS COMMENTS. PLEASE…PLEASE….DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE
MAKING THE COMMENTS….
For these missed comments…you are “the” goat!
Correction
Gabbert is rated second behind Andrew Luck. Cam Newton is probably the best QB of all of them, but more of a college QB than pro style QB. I do think Luck will turn out better in the pros.
Ptolemy Sez…
My favorite Mizcuse for the epic fail that occurred last night (from Tigerboard.com) was that Gabbert couldn’t tell the difference between the uniforms. They were so similar, that he just couldn’t make out the difference. Thank you Gary Pinkel for restoring our faith in you.
Story of MU’s life
The mind is a strange thing, Missouri fans. We must begin by asking it%u2026what is losing? Losing is a disease%u2026as contagious as polio….as contagious as syphilis%u2026as contagious as bubonic plague%u2026attacking one%u2026but infecting all. Ah….but curable.
THAT ‘INT’
looked like the throws/reads ‘the fraudchise’ mutt ca$$el makes whenever he plays a legit NFL team (you’ll have to go back to 2009 to find such an opponent his; honorable mention Grbac & Blackledge…
What exactly is that faith, Ptolemy?
The faith in GP that he has beaten your Cats five straight (including two against “vaunted” Grandpa Bill? You K-State fans are hilarious. I had one talking spit to me last night. Keep running those Dolds, Rohleders and Hrebecs of the world out there and we’ll see where that gets you.
Typical MU
MU, with their ‘NFL’ QB can’t handle an unranked Iowa with its best WR and RB. Small game Gary Pinkel strikes again. He has to be about 3-18 in big games. By big games I mean bowl games, games against ranked North teams and anyone not named Baylor from the South. I knew MU wasn’t a top tier tame after they lucked out a win against San Diego State. Yawn, I’ll get excited about MU when they beat sombody good in the non-con and can beat the good South teams and win bowl games.
This new comment section is awful. Hall get Hearne to fix this. It’s ruining this website.
Brought to you
By another weakling, unranked Big Ten team…. Have fun Nebraska.
