Well sports fans, the time has come to face up to the truth...
Jason Whitlock’s radio and television interview about making $2.1 million was basically untrue. Yes, the stuff about the Kansas City Star likely was for real. But the Star took no action against its editor who in the end effectively dumped Jason. So his editor’s bad acts were basically kicked to the curb. Undoubtedly Star editor Mike Fannin has been under the gun, however no for-public-consumption action has been, taken to this point.
610 Sports host Nick Wright‘s long interview with Jason late last summer was watched and/or listened to by thousands of KC sports fans.
What we were left with was Jason quit due to poor treatment and was going to make big time bank with Fox Sports.
It wasn’t clear exactly how much dough he might make but it was clear that he would be handsomely paid by Fox for his efforts online and in future Fox ventures on TV and/or Radio.
Like I said at the time, I like Jason Whitlock.
He was always cool with me and I was a frequent guest on his sports shows on 810 WHB and 610.
There was never a bad word spoken between us, however, the truth kinda hurts.
Football season, Jason’s bread and butter, has come and is almost gone. And other than a few more posts at Fox online, there have been no Whitlock sightings of note on TV or radio. None. No TV, No Jim Rome radio.
So I must conclude that the talk of big money to Jason was untrue. Exaggerated at best.
I know many online bloggers with names as big or bigger than Whitlock’s, including ex KC Star guy Jeff Flanagan. And blogging for Fox just doesn’t pay that much. At this point in time, it is mostly a sideshow to help support one’s career on TV/radio
Sadly to this point there is no interest in putting our man Jason on anything that matters outside of a blog at Fox.
And without more on-air noise, there is no payday.
Really none at all.
Best case scenario Jason is getting paid tops $50,000 a year.
And that’s a stretch.
Most guys like like Jeff Flanagan are getting paid per article/blog. From maybe $200 to $1,000. If Jason gets near the top of that pay, at four to eight articles a month that’s around 50 grand a year. That said, he would have to be top of the key. And Whitlock is not a big national household name in sports, like Jay Glazer.
I find it sad that a guy with Whitlock’s big profile in KC has, in a sense, no job at this time.
Or not much of one considering his past status here. He probably needs to leave KC for greener pastures.
I Hope he can catch on with a big time newspaper in the east or maybe Detroit. Or Indiana? For now it ain’t happening.
I still think Jason’s a talent, just not here.
Hey Craig….
I think JW’s moved out to California. His twitter posts pretty much spell that one out. I think it’s been awhile since he’s been in KC. Might want to investigate that a little further before you draw up an article.
50K in California is 25K here.
If Craig is right, JW is shedding some pounds.———–He was such an outrageous character here in KC, me personally, I kinda wish he would come back and entertain me.——-Hey Craig, your sports takes were actually better than his. You never predicted 16 and 0, did ya? heh heh…
sorry…
a self pronounced con man and cheat (according to your book) telling us that some guy isnt make the dough he said he is is definitely absurd.
Pay your own bills before you go knocking aguy making 50 grand.
and who areyou to say how muc he makes….unless you ‘re now a
tax advisor…One thing that irritates me more than anything are hypocrites….you ask us
nt to prejudge you based on your past but here you go juding jasonj
on his.
It’s real simple…who cares how much the guy makes? I thought that
this site ha d moved on past wringing fomrer star people. he’s gone..
he’s out of site…and flanagan…a second tier writer who probably
was with you at certain times we won’t talk about (comprende?)
talking a out making money…when he couldn’t pay his bills.
Show us your w2’s….when i hire people and they tell me how much
they made last year and i think its high i ask them to bring their last
years paystub/w-2…and guess what…they don’t show up 90% of the
time.
So lets move on….glazer…what about the porn star party you promised
us detail s about…….give us the tmz story…we could care less about
a washed up old newspaper hack.
Harley Just When We Thought It Was Safe To Go…
You are a pistol Harley, just when I thought you might be ok,uh,,,no….won’t even address the first part of your story. I do pay my bills though. Who are you if you are so self righteous. What is your real name? What do you do for a living…GOT YA….SO HOW ARE YOU better then those you attack?
Adult Parties
I will give you that report after the holidays. P.S. as mentioned I got nothing against Jason.
lacking
I’ll tell you who’s outa work.
Any kind of spell checker or proof reader on KCConfidential.
Come on guys. I thought you we’re gonna move from a blog to a credible website.
Did I hear the same interview?
You seem to imply it was Jason who claimed he was making millions at Fox Sports. From what I remember, Nick ‘never’ Wright asked him about it in his amateur and horrendous interview, and Jason said it was untrue and he wasn’t making that much. But to say he essentially doesn’t have a job is absurd. Everytime he states an opinion, it’s headline is nice and big on msn.com’s homepage, which is a lot of people’s homepages. He’s definitely employed and making plenty.
There is one thing that was predictable
And that’s that Fanin would never be punished for unethical conduct. No one in management at The Star ever is. There are no ethical standards at The Star. never have been, never will be.
