GH: Barnett is spinning fairytales but unfortunately neither Steven St. John or Nate Bukaty challenged his inane comment. Like most college football coaches, Barnett doesn’t want anything to do with a postseason tournament that would eliminate the need for the worthless bowls. The truth is, none of the Big 12 teams have a chance at winning the national title this season – and they haven’t since October. But a playoff would mean mediocre coaches couldn’t claim success with a six- or seven-win season and gaining the popular but worthless “bowl eligibility” label. Here is what the opening round of a 16-team single-elimination playoff might look like using the current BCS standings.

Enough! it’s as tired as whether pete rose should be in the hall of fame. sports radio geeks who have nothing to talk about can kill all the time they want with a playoff. Much more important: colleges changing conferences because of football money. this matters. ask Corn fans who no longer to make one-day trips to ames, manhattan, lawrence and columbia. now they get 8+ hour trips to the great lakes states. that matters to real fans.

KC SPORTS RADIO
When Scott Pioli and Mitch Holthus come on the radio, I change the channel. It’s a 10-15 minute, non-informative sales pitch for the Chiefs, nothing more. //// I hope Fescoe stays. I thinkhe and Klingler make a decent radio team for local sports. Sharif is talented and interesting, but many times he sounds like the Easterner, non-Kansas Citian that he is. If your guess is correct, they’d have a lineup of Sharif 6-9, New Guy 9-11, Rome 11-2. In addition, they’d have a talented, but very much "acquired taste" and green host in Nick Wright in the drive time. Not sure that’s smart on 610’s part, going up against 810, who’s hosts are all Kansas Citians who "get" the KC sports scene….even if they, as a group, are way too geeky, nerdy and non-funny/entertaining. I’ll give props to Fescoe/Klingler/Sharif/Rome/Wright for their many attempts at trying to be funny and irreverant and entertaining, and many times succeeding.

While I’ve not been impressed with Fescoe and Wright is definitely both an "acquired taste" and a work in progress, I think that getting away from KC guys is probably not helpful for 610 in the long run. I don’t see Arbitron numbers very much, but my understanding is that Petro kicks Jim Rome’s ass with reckless abandon, locally speaking. The national perspective is already available with ESPN, ESPN Radio and the web. I have satellite radio, but when I listen to sports stuff, its usually the local stations. I think 810 understands this and thats why they’re so dominant. Obviously, they have better talent (wheher you think Kietzman is talented and whether you like him or not, you can’t deny that lots of people listen to him) but Rome is also very talented but people like Petro because he makes it about the teams people in KC follow.
Actually……
1) In tournament play, you exchange cards with your fellow competitors on the 1st tee. In casual play (most common), one guy keeps score for all. 2) A golfer is only DQ’d if he signs for a LOWER score than what actually occurred. 3) Just confirming it’s accuracy, not sure why that is stupid. 4) See # 2. 5)Practice and get better.
If KK says something outlandish and factually incorrect, then you would call him out. You should be held to the same standard.

I come here regularly to read your articles and have followed you for years since the days at the Star (which I read every Sunday morning for your article) to now. I always enjoy your peices and the Neilboniics series ruled! I just think on this subject you are letting your predisposed dislike for Haley get in the way. I have no problem with what Haley snubbing Mcdaniels. Hell I wish more players and teams truly hated their opposition. it would make the game that much better. This isn’t chess, this is a rip your head off and run it down your throat sport. Imagine the intensity if the players truly hated their rivals? So i thought you went overboard on your criticism (from the looks of the comments, others did too) and was curious as to why you are so much less critical of your alma maters coach. Never heard you call for his suspension.

Rainbow Man….If it were me I’d of canned him after the game. Sorry but that dude is out of fucking control…I don’t see how he reflects the great fans and traditions of NE. I was embarrassed for him and college football by the way he handled himself. All that aside that was one of the most entertaining football games I’ve seen in ages. I would love to see a big time game at College Station.
