Think of it as a battle of old versus new, distinguished tradition pitted against cutting edge innovation…
And in a photo finish ending, legendary Kansas City hamburger haven Winstead’s kicked Blanc Burger + Bottles you-know-what in the game of Groupon. Yes, Groupon – that paragon of Internet marketing virtue that’s sweeping the nation one email deal a day at a time.
Here’s how it went down…
Back in June, Blanc saddled up on Groupon with a get $20 worth of “gourmet burgers and drinks” for $10 offer that bagged a whopping 8,430 takers.
Very impressive.
So sweet was that deal, that Blanc returned to the Groupon plate again last month and set an all-time Groupon record.
Enter Winstead’s yesterday with a 5 bucks will get you 10 bucks Groupon deal.
Less money was involved, but as expensive as Winstead’s is for a fast food joint – and make no mistake, it’s expensive – its burgers have yet to hit 10 bucks apiece and it doesn’t sell booze.
You get the picture.
In the final accounting, Winstead’s sold 8,676 Groupon deals to Blanc’s 8,430.
Blanc’s take on the Winstead’s win?
“Congratulations,” says Blanc spokesman Will Gregory. “Obviously it shows an interest in the burger market in Kansas City. And Blanc’s just happy to be a part of that tradition.”

Riveting stuff Hearne…Groupon Battles? Come on you’re better than that.

HC: Thanks, man…I think

According to Social Media Club KC, Blanc acutally sold 14,000 Groupons in a single day.

This story was comparing the two eateries FIRST offer on Groupon. As you can see, if you re-read the story, Blanc’s second record-setting Groupon deal is mentioned. Should Winstead’s return, we’ll take a look at that matchup.
Oh and it wasn’t a one day deal for Blanc’s record breaker. Where Winstead’s was a one day offer.

Don’t worry. You always have to read Hearne’s stuff two or three times before it makes any sense.
The only thing Blanc and Winstead’s have in common is that they serve beef. The comparison in groupon sales means nothing.
__________
HC: Two or three times, huh? Would you like to subscribe to my Hearne for Dummies email edition? Only thing in common is beef? Keep re-reading, you’ll get it eventually.

Oh, H. Jr., baby, you slay me:
“…but as expensive as Winstead

OK, social media grrrl. Blanc’s record setting deal lasted like Friday thru Sunday. Winstead’s was a single day deal. I followed Blanc’s progress and the numbers grew straight thru for all three days. Don’t recall what they were at 24 hours in. But it was also Blanc’s second trip to the plate and they had 8,400 people in the bank from the first time, plus the added word of mouth to their friends and/or people that missed it.
If Winstead’s comes back in a couple months and does a three day deal, we’ll compare those numbers.

Remember, Blanc’s deal was $10 for $20, while Winstead’s is $5 for $10, so it makes sense that the cheaper one would be more popular.

A pissing contest over who can give away the most food, this is the advertising revolution of social media, get real.

Wow, way to attack the reader, Hearne.
I’m merely restating what I read. The item is linked in my signature and states it was within one day “Did you know that Blanc Burger holds the country

Link did not take. Here it is:

____________
HC: A factually incorrect online item as a news source? OK. Doesn’t change that it was a three day deal.
Geez
Wow, HC – I hope you look back in a year or so and consider this article rock bottom… And when was the last article you didn’t quote your boyfriend, Will Gregory?
That Guy
Do the math when you divide the number of outlets; two for Blanc and at least 7? for Winsteads. Whatever… this is a fucking stupid piece anyway.
_______________
HC: The record Blanc blew away topped a chain in the Chicago area with a ton of area locations.
Just Curious
When did it become good business and competition to see who can give away the most product? Groupon only offers a participant 20 to 30% of the total you pay. $2 gross profit doesn’t net much, especially for a place like Winstead’s that can’t mark up the ticket with liquor sales.
Winner goes broke.

HC: Don’t think so. The pricing og the Groupon generally means the customer will bring more people and spend more money. They get money up front and some of the Groupons will never be used, so there’s that. They get to reach 100,000 people with their name and product. Blanc says the majority of the Groupon buyers were first timers and a very large percentage of them came back again after they’d tried it via the Groupon. And they get the money up front. There’s more to it than meets the eye. That’s why it’s such a hot commodity right now.

Not that it matters, but, it seems like it’s the same people over and over that are talking shit about these articles. But, in order to talk shit about them, you first have to direct your browser here and read the articles. So…you’re really Helping, instead of hurting. So therefore, you’re all idiots.
