“Why is it that a baseball prospect requires four years on the farm to get his confidence for The Show but a 21-year-old NFL rookie gets tossed into the fray against Peyton Manning in his fourth game?”

To answer your question, it’s because the Chiefs have no one better — unless one believes McGraw can handle Manning better (laughing allowed). It’s good Berry is tested early against Manning. If he gets burned, it’s a valuable learning experience for a rookie — and he wouldn’t be the first future All-Pro to be torched by Peyton. If he performs well, it’s a confidence boost. No lose proposition.

Schaub doesn’t worry me nearly as much. He’s a talented QB, but he’s not Manning. And Berry won’t be covering Calvin Johnson one-on-one; that will be Flowers’ assignment, and he’s becoming one of the game’s best CBs (Flowers’ YPA last year was 3.6, the same as Revis).

For a young team, these next two road games are good ones at this time. Neither is a division game and losing one or both, especially this early in the season with the weakest part of the schedule ahead, isn’t a killer to any playoff hopes. That Kansas City fans can even consider playoffs a possibility for this club, especially after playing pre-season playoff hopefuls San Diego and San Francisco in the first three weeks, is certainly encouraging. Hopefully, the same optimism can be seen a month from now.

Ned Yost and Joe Biden must have sone a Vulcan mind transfer in their past.

Every home in Angola, or KCK, will have indoor plumbing before the Royals make an appearance in the ALCS.

The question is how much more productive would FAT people be if they were FIT.

I predict at least one pik for Eric Berry against the Colts. Personally, I hope the Chiefs win, an uncommon feeling for me. When I was a degenerate gambler Peyton Manning cost me thousands in college and in the pros.

I agree with NB that KU quit. That’s on the coaches, not the kids. Coach Gill needs to look for some biblical inspiration besides turning the other cheek. I suggest he spend some time with Old Testament Jesus this week and get back to eye for an eye football.

KC Royals? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Only the dumbest of dumb pay attention to them at any time during the summer. I’d rather saw out my own taint with Jack Harry’s dentures than watch a shitbag Royals games.

If Greg Hall is tuning out the Royals after Aug. 1, you know it’s bad. He’d fluff Bill Grigsby with a handie for a geriatric porn movie if it meant he could watch an afternoon baseball game on TV.

GH did not tune out anything in August…. he NEVER tuned them in. Please show one post where assboy said a thing about the Royals.

As far as the dickface/facist above bashing on people who watch the Royals, uh LOL. You are a moron. So the Royals do not do so well over all, but we had the best record on winning ga,es whne we were up in the 8th inninbg(55 in a row) Soria was a lot of fun to watch. Baseball if a lot of fun to watch. This chickenshit town is lucky to have MLB team, NO THANKS to negative goofs like GH (who only comments in the end ( such a classy positive person)) or doucher eric.

The Royals have a tough time competing with the low salary we can afford, but they are still fun to have on, if only in the background.

You can bank on the fact GH will NEVER have a kind to word say about anything but his shiutty school (mu)… he bags on EVRYTHING ELSE…

If any general manager or manager of any other
team in baseball made predictions like moore
and yost (about possibly being a 500 ball
club in 2011) they would be fired immediately.
What team has its head people praying that they
    break even on the field.
Why the fuck does glass own this team if he
    hires half wits like this.
Moore is less…and yost is an idiot.
Where is the jackson county legislature and the
taxpayers of jackson county who gave the
wal mart assholes free money…they should be
demanding to see their books and see why they
can’t put a winning team on the field..
I know why….glass wants all the cash for
    himself….he’s asmart businessman…..because
now…cash is king and why spend money you don’t
have to when you cazn make 5-10 million a year!

Gregger givin’ Griggs a handie! GENIUS.

    Good smak imagery today!

Jojo, at least they’re being HONEST instead of runnin’ some snake oil bullshit up the flagpole about winning 100 games next year. David Glass would rather net a quarter million in profit than lose a million and win a World Series. It’s not in his DNA to assume that profits will follow success. It’s not in his DNA to be a WINNER. David Glass is so tight when he opens his eyes his toes curl up.

Greg…enjoy the columns…curious about something. I’ve noticed you’ve been pretty skeptical of Snyder’s ability to recruit…but I noticed the other day that suddenly K-State has jumped up to 39th nationally at Rivals…ahead of Mizzou in the national rankings..and 6th in the Big 12. Ready to back off?

    ___

GH: I hope I am wrong about Snyder’s ability to attract the kind of talent to K-State that he did in the 90s. That said, I

Peyton will be Manning up all day long while the woodshed welcomes eric ‘overbite on play action’ berry’s hovel – OB OPA become ‘dinkle’ in short – maybe 3 td passes via him in 1 game ‘stead the 3 in the first 2 games 2010?

Imagine will be not unlike Superbowl 1 when Bart Starr went through Mitchell and Williamson et al like… well, Patton’s “crap thru a goose” comes to mind.

It’s gonna be ugly at INDY… about 59-0 Colts, unless succop who is already missing FG’s more often 2010 than in 2009 makes one I expect him to miss or have blocked – counting pre-season, through 7 games 2009 he was 9-11 but just 9-13 through same seven 2010.

    Result?

3-1 aft the Colts dominate, 3-2 aft the Texans do the same, then JACK comes to town and makes it a hat trick of losses, kc 3-3 heading into the Halloween match-up with BUFF, early season rain-addled gift win v SD and officials same v CLEV will seem as far away memories.

    4 straight defeats? Why not.

I don’t always agree, but I definitely enjoy these columns Greg.

I agree with you on the Yost thing. Him opting to not project a number of wins is ridiculous. Everyone sets goals (well, at least most people who are consistently successful do), and him choosing to not set a number just means he knows it’s going to be bad again next year.

This team cutting payroll to $60 million next year is just so it looks like David Glass is spending money in 2013 and 2014 when the payroll jumps to (if we’re lucky) $80 million or so. At least that’s what I expect.

Even the Twins are proving that, with the homegrown talent, you still have to throw some duckets around to win in October. Their payroll is pushing $100 million if I’m not mistaken.

Check my blog covering my outlook on the Royals here.

When a team quits on a game or season, it’s also extremely demoralizing for the fan. I can still recall MU quitting on the 1999 football season (perhaps not every single player, but many) and the awful results down the stretch. It gets no worse.

So you’re telling us there’s a chance eh GH? You have been anti TG, and really anti KU for quite a while now. I used to enjoy your stuff b/c you were somewhat objective. The comments section was the fun back and forth. But you’ve just gone anti KU all in! I’ve been a reader for a long, long time. I was ecstatic when my buddy tracked down the Platte County Landmark back in the day. But, man, I think I just might be done.

GH: Or you could say I’ve been accurate. If you are looking for someone to tuck you into bed and tell you everything will be better in the morning, JoPo’s blog is out there somewhere.

Too many people swallow what local sprots talk show hosts say as the gospel truth. David Glass isn’t the problem with the Royals. The Twins and Rays didn’t make the playoffs because they spent a ton of money. It’s much more complicated than that. The Royals need to make some hard decisions this winter. They have too many similiarly medicore players at several positions. They need to decide who to keep and who to trade and fill some holes with better players. They give players way too long to develop Teahen, Gordon, etc) and let other players languish in the minors because of their indecision. It’s ridiculous. They should have a much better record, even with the inexpensive players that they have. No one on the Royals ever seems to develop and get better. That’s not the fault of David Glass.
