Prince Gill better believe his job is in jeopardy. Horrible loss in first game. mismanaging players. His boss who hired him is fired after his first game. And he has too big a salary.

Unfortunately, it’s going to be hard to recruit wtih the axe above his neck.

Dept. of Redundancy Dept.: Is there another version of Start Me Up?

You’d better watch it, or Jesse Jackson’s going to protest OTC about your comments about KU’s minorities in management. Obviously criticism of Turner is justified, but Gray-Little might be the best of her peers: how would we know?

KSU’s victory was fine…that’s about it. UCLA is nothing more than a name on the side of a helmet and that’s about it. They basically lost their front four from a run D ranked in the upper 50’s last season, so you knew Thomas would get his yards. If Carson Coffman doesn’t develop it’s going to be a long season.

Hope springs (albeit not eternal) for Turner Gill’s success. But 3 points against Fargo Normal?

C’mon. Did a schedule conflict prevent a match-up with the Illinois School for the Blind?

If Bob Hemenway was still Chancellor, Gill being an African-American might be a bigger deal but if he gets fired, you can damn well bet that Bernadette Gray-Little will be standing right beside whoever is the AD when it happens. Firing an African-American head coach will be a lot easier to do (and watch) if it’s an African-American doing the firing. She might not be the one that actually makes the change, but her endorsement will make a huge difference in perception if it ever gets to him being dismissed.

And why do people keep saying she’s in over her head? Greg, earlier this week you pointed out the reason that Perkins is heading out the door with all his money is because of the lawsuit that would follow. So, where exactly did she misstep on that? You’d prefer that she fired him without giving him his money but knowing that it would lead to litigation, quite possibly protracted? Could I suggest that maybe you don’t have access to all the facts and you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about?

Or are you referring to your previous criticism as to how she was out of the country when the whole conference realignment thing was blowing up? Because as Chancellor she has a LOT of responsbilities that have nothing to do with Athletics. That’s why she has an Atheltics Director, no?

Or do you mean how she handled the ticket scam? Because as soon as she heard about it, she went and retained counsel and took the advice of her lawyers and investigated the problem. What else would you have had her do?

I’m not saying everything has gone well for KU of late and it has been an eventful summer, soe of which has been KU’s own doing (ticket office issues) and some of which has not (conference realignment) but where exactly does the criticism that the Chancellor is in over her head come from? Unless you want to nitpick, like you did the other day, about stuff like the fact that she said that Sean Lester won’t be a candidate for AD and he said he’d like the job (those statements are not mutually exclusive, by the way), what has she done to suggest that she is in over her head?

I think part of that perception is fed by the fact that KU has been lurching from one problem to the next for months now. Again, some of those problems were created by KU and some of them weren’t, but when as many issues crop up as have been cropping up in Lawrence, I think people just assume bad things. Clearly, bad things were happening in the Atheltics Department and I’m not here trying to defend Perkins, but I just don’t get the persistent criticism of Gray-Little. At least not yet. In time those criticisms may turn out to be validated, but please tell me what she has done that is so awful.

Billy Ray Cyrus singing the National Anthem on MNF in KC. There’s a curse on your season. Still waiting for the KC Chevy dealers to roll out the Limited Edition 2011 Camaro-Head. It won’t run well and you won’t be able to pass in it.

C’mon Gregger “Start Me Up” is way long in the tooth. I can’t even listen to it anymore cause when I hear it I think of Nick Lowrey and his cats. There are hundreds of better songs. Something loud, demonic and nasty like Enter Sandman, Hair of the Dog or Hell’s Bells….something that tells the other team your coming to kick their ass, eat their food, drink their booze and shag their women. Although the way the Chiefs play maybe some John Dever song is more appropriate.

A friend of mine who is an ex K-Club president says Coach Gill will get two seasons.

“……who fit the minority bill but look to be in way over their heads.”

Gray-Little, Gill and Obama have 2 things in common.

I like Gill a lot and am really pulling for him. You can’t judge anybody on 1 game, it’s just that his 1st game was SO horrific looking. Embarassing, really.

But if KU plays tough and smart and keeps it close against G. Tech, Gill will have taken a HUGE first step in winning back the naysayers.

Greg, you’re so right about K-State having a PARANOID fan base. It’s bizarre. Of course, the biggest and craziest mouth in town happens to be a K-Stater. KK does NOTHING to help K-State fans’ reps.

Kietzman might be correct about there being no dropoff between Cassell and Croyle, but the dropoff will be when Croyle takes the snap, drops back to pass and his pelvis shatters and he goes on IR for the season. We’ll notice a dropoff after that first play.

I think its interesting that Chiefs and Jayhawks are both playing make or break games this week. These are very pivotal games for both teams. I’m calling for an outright Chiefs win based on nothing but a Camarohead ambush..Chargers won’t know what hit em. If the Chiefs shit the shower in the opener they won’t win 6 games.
KU -13.5 hmmmmm…look for that to go to 17 and then bet the Hawks…look-this is a dick thing now. I fully expect a good show up in Lawrence. I for one liked the Gill hire…if they get boot stomped than I think we have to look at his leadership abilities on this level.

@Gavin…good points regarding Gray-Little. It is difficult to point to a single thing she’s done completely wrong. When we see her on camera, though, talking about whatever the mess of the day is, she just seems a little lost. Maybe it is typical academic arrogance towards athletics, maybe it is frustration that this is a part of her job, whatever…she just doesn’t seem in her element when dealing with the athletic department.

@Greg…not sure race will play much a factor in this. Gray-Little is more likely to be “hated on” by your average sports fan because she is a woman and Gill because he is a Christian…and mostly both will feel some heat simply because it is a rough time right now. Until you mentioned it, I honestly didn’t even register their race when thinking about either of them.

“But if KU plays tough and smart and keeps it close…”

Sorry, but “keeping it close” is hardly a measure.

KU kept it close with Fargo Normal. If they lose to Georgia Tech 6-3 you might have an argument there’s one helluva defense in Lawrence. Might.

I’m as big a KU fan as you’ll find (and you’ll have to look for us), but expecting something wonderful against GA-Tech is like going to the Roman Colosseum and betting on the Christians over the lions.

“But they kept it close! Ol’ Larry wasn’t eaten until the end of the 3rd quarter!” (I’d translate that into Latin but this isn’t the right crowd for it.)

Of all the extraneous things that need to go at Arrowhead is that stupid ass KC Wolf. Before I gave up my season tickets for years I would loiter in the concourse so I did not have to see that not-funny wolf run over another dummy in the opposing teams jersey with a four-wheeler. Annoyed the shit out of me.

    WTF??!!

    geeeeezzzz… no fun zone.

It is going to be hard being a local sports fan rooting for ANY home team this weekend.

The White Sox are going to be hell bent for leather chasing the Twinks…. Ga.Tech knows they have an opportuntity to “kick em while they are down”…. and San Diego will probably not miss an opportunity to fk over Arrowhead on prime time TV.

Arrowhead has never treated the Chargers well, and they remember that… Maybe we should just rewatch the game from “back in the day” when we destroyed Ryan Leaf in one game… He insulted Arrowhaed and our D before that game, and we destroyed him…. he never recovered… but that was then… and ummm… 🙁 this is now….. this sucks:(

Expect a scary local sports weekend, and it is still a month and half to Halloween.

I am a KU fan but sorry, “Kale Pick” is just NOT a good name for a football quarterback.

Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Joe Namath those are good QB names, but Kale Pick??? uh… sorry son… it is just not in the cards for you.

    “AND PICK WAS PICKED!!”
    “Pick was picking his nose”
“Pick will be picking a seat on the bench”
“Pick will not be picked in the draft”
“Pick is on a short wick”

“Most people thought KSU would lose to UCLA”: Weren’t they favored?
Tom Shatel being quoted in OTC over and over: Disagree
“They only think they want strong college football. Often, that means you have to hold your nose. Do they want an image guy or a tough, rough guy who wins football games? They had that guy and let him”-Tom Shatel: Tom-you are an idiot. MM was a good football coach but a bad human being, not a tough, rough guy.

I’m tired of taking a beating as a KU fan. It’s been one thing after another after hitting that peak in April of 2008. It’s gwtting a little tiresome though that Greg seems to blow a nut every time something else happens. I mean, seriously, can you find anything negative at another school? Anything? Anybody been raped down at Mizzou lately? Any Defensive Ends narrowly avoided driving over a kitten in the middle of the night on the way home from the “library”? Any secret $3,000,000 payoffs going on out west? Geez. You act like a journalist. Do some research. And on something we sports fans give a shit about….not the editor of the freaking newspaper!

Hatch would have been the starter if not for back injury (due to being out of shape). He moved Opurum because of lack of depth at linebacker. He if moves him back to RB, that’s the panic move. Now on the QB we can agree — that one smells. I “guess” the theory is Gill wanted to emphasize the run and figured Pick was the better fit. He’s now decided the personnel fits a passing team better & Webb is the better fit for that offense. In theory. . .I’m thinking he had the whole summer to figure that one out.

I dont mind the BS they throw at KU.

I find it somewhat amusing that this radio blogger NEVER misses a chance to take a pop shot about ANY negative story which is even hinted about KU. He relished Mangino getting fired, he delighted in the Jayhawks not winning in the 2nd round of the tourny, he was thrilled with the ticket scandal, he celebrated Lew resigning he was…. on and on blah blah blah… it actually says more about him than the Jayhawks….. anyway….

I dont mind the BS, it just indicates the level of jealousy people have towards our fine University. It is like having a hot girlfriend, you have to expect the morons to spew some BS, it goes with the territory.

KU will bounce… WE ALWAYS HAVE… WE ALWAYS WILL….

Who knows about the football program this year….. it is what it is…. and facts be known The Fatman was like a bonus, unexpected…. We always had a weak football team, oh well….. Basketball season is just around the corner… and we are locked and loaded again… and we do have that NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP STILL FRESH IN OUR MINDS… it makes us bullet proof. I am still breaking out shirts I have non worn yet which I bought when we were NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN 2008!!!! FK YEAH!!!

JoHawk Very funny. Did everyone know that in addition to her high 6, maybe 7, figure salary Gray-Little collects appox. 250,000/year in retirement from North Carolina she’s 2nd or 3rd highest paid state retiree. Worst part of Gill’s loss was the coaching staff looked liked they had never coached a game in there entire freaking lifes. Of all the possible hires put out the public Gill had the weakest resume. I was a Tuberville guy , currently 111 D1 wins and counting. Currenting Rivals has Tech recuiting class at 19 and KU at 49. Part is being in Texas part the coachs rep. Being interesting to see how both play out . And to Shatel the rest of big red country feel free to fire Bo and hire Gill like THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN

I have been a HUGE fan of the option since I was running it as a 5th grade QB. What Joshua Nesbitt did today was the absolute WORST execution of the “triple threat” I have EVER seen. He made decisions too soon, telegraphed his intentions and pitched the ball like it had acid on it that was burning his hands.

After today he’s not a candidate for a hymen much less the Heisman.

    jojo,
I think think the only person here who suggested “TURNER IS ONE AND DONE” and “Fire Turner NOW” was grumpyH.

After last weeks loss (I am still trying to figure out what a NDSU is ; ) all I said was….. without the couple of fumbles and dropped passes… KU might win the game. I said that I miss the Fatman’s style of play calling, and I still miss him. I liked that big fat fkr, he was awesome. I think he got a raw deal. ( And now it is so funny…. how people are saying Turner is too laid back….. They are saying he should be tougher on the players….. WTF? and supposedly the Fatman was fired for being to tough on the kids?… lmao)

After last weeks game I was not mad at my team or my new football coach. I did not jump off anything. I give new people plenty of time to show what they are made of.

I am happily surprised at todays win. It was a lot of fun to watch….. and… Facts be known…. having a team which is so good that we (are expected to) beat all the 2nd rate teams we play early in the season (as the KU basketball team usually does) is not as entertaining. As a matter of fact, only bad things can happen when you are that good. If you slip up and lose to a heavy underdog, it is no fun zone.

I NEVER boo my home team, it is what it is. As long as they are doing their best, and dont give up, then I will support them.

The only question is what …. “oh what” … will grumpyH post as a headline, now that KU had a good week? Probably nothing relating to KU doing well.

I am asking again, for the 20th time, WHY DONT THE CHIEFS HIRE JIMMY JOHNSON AS COACH AND GM?? asnd lest move on from anoth dismal year… MTHR FK!!! KC NEEDS A WINNER … COME ON !!!!!

WTF is JJ doing on some BS TV show like suckvivor?? I have never watched it, never will…. BUT I WILL TELL YOU this idiot noncoach, nonfootball haleybitch WILL NEVER DO WELL … He may have lucked out as an assistant coach, but the peter principal prevails,,, and he is incapable of coaching, or motivating, men who have been playing footbaLl since they were in 5th grade, WHILE HE IS A GOLFING HOMO.

haley girl is a fkn doucher who screeches about accountability, YET NEVER APPLIES THAT HERSELF…!!! WTF!!??

The only thing that makes sense is LA Chiefgs… I would love to be wrong.. I would love for it to work… BUT IT WONT!@!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RESCUE JIMMY JOHNSON FROM BS TV AND BRING HIM TO KC TO RESCUE US..
