More cutbacks, layoffs and/or unpaid furloughs are expected at the Kansas City Star...
Possibly this week. Since the layoffs tend to come at the beginning of pay periods, one of which starts this week. The Labor Day holiday threw things off by at least one day, since Monday was a holiday.
KC Confidential first reported rumors of more layoffs last month on August 10.
Interestingly, embattled Star editor Mike Fannin was MIA all last week.
Taking PTO (personal time off) days, sources say.
You may recall that veteran Star sports columnist Jason Whitlock spoke critically of Fannin, saying staffers with knowledge of Fannin’s alleged indiscretions were less likely to get the axe than those not in the know.
I don’t know about that, I knew about a few of ’em and look what good it did me!
Fannin indiscretions that include a pair of DUI convictions, the last of which KCC reported but the Star and Fannin did not. Along with a widely rumored alleged affair with a subordinate, and a handful of other unseemly revelations that were laid out here.
The betting money is that the newspaper is going to turn somewhat of a blind eye – at least in public and for now – and that Fannin may quietly fade to gray in the coming months. That of course remains to be seen.
Could be a rough week. Or maybe they’ll hatch a way to make the cuts sans the body count.
Stay tuned.

I recall how the paper disciplined a reporter who played in a band that got booked to play for some politico’s birthday, or some such other nonsense. it was treated as if it was some great stain on the honor of the newspaper and yet it’s acceptable when Art Brisbane was little more than a shine boy at The River Club, most of the editorial board and some of the reporters went to the events of a local left-wing activist group as participants and Derek Donovan violated one ethical standard after another with impunity.
Apparently, ethics is a rather slippery term to get hold of down at The Star. Indeed, I’m stunned that 3 Wheel Lokeman isn’t still writing a column down there.

I am being serious. I have never encountered this before. I have never seen this type of Chinese censorship in America, and I wonder if anyone else has?
WHAT IS GOING ON? THIS IS NEW!!

Has anyone ever been blocked from a website because it says:
YOUR ZIP CODE IS ON THE “BLOCKED LIST”?
I saw somthing today about NURU MASSAGE. I had never heard of it, and one link that had some info was youporn.
BUT the site would not open, it only pointed to a link about blocked zip codes, so I clicked onit, and I was stunned.
Here is a list of blocked zip codes.
http://youporn.com/prohibited
I am well aware that there are plenty of OTHER sites for porn, BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT!!!
The point is,
I did a little looking and I can not find any info on who/why/how someone “out there” has decided what I can look at and what I can not.
It starts like this, and expnads, to web sites like kcconfidential, because they deem the content here to be “dnagerous”
WHAT IS THE DEAL???
ps
I am glad I have a place to ask this, and maybe someone can dig into it, I know the KC Star would brush this aside as too pervy.
But this is not about pervy, it is about buying a drink on Sunday and choosing religions and chooosing what a I want to see and read.

Bingo.
“We don’t need no stinkin’ editors, we got spell check!”
Rumor has it that Derek Donovan is also now the person responsible for filling the snack machines, although he doesn’t handle the money. As per corporate policy Zieman does that.

Who in the world is John Altevogt, and why is his face sunk into Hearne’s butt crack? Does he get paid for kissing Hearne’s rectum?
