Greg this is the worst news ever, since the depression started. All the work KU and MU and K State have done to be more important…out the window…especially KU, the “UCLA” of the midwest. Of course without KU getting PAC TEN or SouthEast…or Big Ten…you lose Bill Self soon. How traggic and unfair for all of us.
Can’t believe this happened…seeing USC on probation is not good for college sports either. Maybe its time to pay student athletes we make millions on them. Only l per cent go pro…not fair. Most of them are broke, but have to pretend they are rock stars off the field…after sports and no NBA/NFL contract, too many end up as bartenders or at 24 hour health spa desk.

This really is a big deal….the Midwest does not like change..thats why these rivalry’s are so strong.
Greg..even though it looks like a great move for the prosperity of your team..it must be bittersweet to break up these rivalry’s….Looks like the best hope now is that Texas will stay so they can dominate and be assured BCS #1 game… we could pick up TCU and Houston and we keep doing business. I feel most sorry for the old timers that mark time based on certain games.

GH: I am far more depressed than excited about NU’s move to the B10. Sure, it looks good for the future of the Huskers to be tied to a stable, storied conference but it may greatly diminishes sports fans’ passion and interest in KU, MU and KSU if we all end up in different conferences. I keep expecting to wake up from this nightmare but Freddy K is in my head and he’s dotting the I with the Buckeyes’ band.

Greg, I find it highly ironic that KK’s ego has totally screwed his bloved Wildcats by reporting a couple of weeks ago the MU/NU to the big 10 story. I have no doubt that his false report sped up the whole process. While the B12 may have ultimatley failed it might have lasted a few more years. Who knows it might have stayed together long enough to get that major tv contract from FOX that has been rumored and the conference might have been saved. But he is too big of a dueche and had to “break” the conference re-alignment story. Now he has completely screwed KU, MU, ISU, and most especially KSTATE. I wonder how he is going to like KSTATE playing at Hawaii at 2:00 in the morning every other year when the Kittys are relegated to the WAC?

Greg, Great Title (“The Day the Music Died”): Ironically and completely coincidentally tonight, I watched The Buddy Holly Story on Retroplex — the first time I’ve ever watched the entire movie. It just reinforced what Don McLean was talking about in his famous song American Pie: The extreme sadness of an ahead-of-his-time musical genius being taken so young. And the same type of sadness pervades this day, a day when we have likely seen the end of MU/KU/KSU inhabiting the same conference. Heck, even NU departing sucks, given the VERY long football series that MU (and I think KU) share with the cornfolks. I think it a 99% probability that MU and KU wind up in BCS conferences (BTW, the Big 12 is DEAD), but alas, it’s almost certain to be different conferences. (Seems B10 or BE or MU, and likely P10 for KU). Although I’ve never liked the jayhawkers or the k-staters, I actually do hope they find a way to stay in the same conference. Simply put, that would be the right thing. Heck, as expressed, I’d like all three of us to continue to be in the same conference, but I just don’t see that happening. It truly is a sad day on the KC sports scene (as if we needed more of those around here!).

Greg, I think your disapointed because you’re a NU fan in KC. I think many NU fans in Nebraska really don’t care now that their team no longer plays MU, KU and K-State.
Infact my friend from college lives in Omaha, he’s a big NU fan. I called him last night about this. He already told me the two teams he hates the most now is Iowa and Wisconsin.
He said the trip to Minnesota, Iowa, Ill and Wisconsin won’t be too worst then the trips to MU, KU or K-state.
I think KC Nebraska fans hate the move. I think NU fans elswhere don’t care.

Nebraska’s news conference answered all questions when Tom Osbourne blamed everyone but himself and Nebraska for this collapse.
Nebraska has spent every day since the Big 12’s inception trying to make themselves an equal to Texas and they’ve failed at every turn. The couldn’t recruit against Texas and they certainly didn’t fair well against them on the field, so they’ve done the only thing a left (in their mind) by packing up their belongings and walking out on this marriage.

And to be honest if you want talk about the NBA then there are plenty of national shows to listen too. If I tune into a local show I want to hear how this effects me at my home.
Soccer is the 7th sport in this country. This is not an NBA town. So why should I hear that on a local show? KU, K-State and MU possibly being all being in diffrent confrences in two years is a bigger story in KC then the NBA.
As too OMK having a connection to KK? I think he made it clear he’s a fan. But when in doubt just say he’s KK or that he’s his brother..or something like that.

John had a good point. In media the first thing they tell you is local, local, local. People care more about what goes on in their backyard. So of course a Big 12 being no more is going to be the headline story over the World Cup or NBA.
