Hearne: Death of the KC Downtowner; Joe Miller Lays it Down

Going, going…

The pending death of the KC Downtowner a Web site dedidicated to politics and downtown Kansas City, Mo. – finds former Pitch heavy hitter (and KC mayoral aid) Joe Miller in a reflective state.

So was Miller’s parting with KCD bittersweet?

“Well, yeah,” he says. “I don’t know what the sweetness of it is. It was a good deal for me and I wish it still was one.

In Miller’s farewell column he suggested that there were only 350 regular visitors to the site.

Is the 350 number accurate?

“Yes, it is,” Miller says. “I wanted it to be a bigger deal but I think it was read by a core of people who are really into politics here for whatever reason.”

Translation: it’s pretty much impossible to keep afloat with that few visitors.

Any chance at all the site will soldier on?

“No, uh-huh,” Miller says. “They offered it to me to take over, which was really generous because they put a lot of money in it to get it going.”

But Miller says he doesn’t have the time or resources to carry the site on.

Any idea at all who

Nice. Hearne states that Joe was “dedidicated.” Say that one out loud, just for fun.

I’m confused here, so help me out. Miller was getting paid, I would assume that involved a check and a 1099, so how could he not know who was paying him and who was behind the site he was running. Seems odd.

Isn’t that like 325 more visitors then this site. And Hearne it was nice of you to front the money for him.
