This a a pretty uncomplete story of KC nightlife and the high and low profile owners and limited partnership scams that created and shaped it.
Westport One, Parody Hall, One Block West, Woody’s, The Firehouse, Generals Inn, Cactus Moon, Confetti’s, The Downliner, Grand Emporium, Dundee’s, Westport Country Playhouse, Hot Rocks, Stage Door Bar…Hell I could go on for hours about these and other joints that impacted metro area nightlife for better or for worse.

Fannys was the best. More hot pu$$ than you could
skake a stick at. All the bartenders were great…and the waiters too….I was underage but
I looked italian and they let me in.
I remember one new years eve I took my
girlfriend down there. Some guy came out with

Now…with trexting you can’t talk to these

Thanks to all for the trips down memory lane! But what about all the great strip clubs and rub and tugs in KCK before Carol Marinovich shut ’em down? B3 and the Red Apple were as nasty as any clubs anywhere. If you had the money honey the girls had the time. The cabbies used to make a fortune running the convention and business trade back and forth across the Inter City Viaduct.
Two other places that used to be filled with nymphos were Smugglers Inn off 435 and the club in the old Adams Mark Hotel….can’t remember the name. And the Disco-Deck at the airport Marriott was HOT when it first opened.

This my first post on this blog. I have read it now for almost a year. I worked at Mothers, knew Butch and met Craig there years back. I was a senior waitress and worked in coat check. We had tons of big name people come in over the years. Butch did have a couple other clubs years latter but none like Mothers. I loved it, best years of my life. I married now have three children, all grown up now. Mr. Glazer thank you bringing those times back to me. I needed it.

Glad you guys liked this story. You people are right there are many more clubs and stories to address, but this blog is not the place for a book. I felt I hit on the big name club owners who were in the news the most. Hell Houlighans was the true beginning of the Plaza Hot Spots, but no front guy, and it was more of a restaurnt then a nightclub, but man was it smokin hot, girls, girls, girls.
I will follow up on this story with more soon.

Craig, so good to read your piece…well said throughout. Because of watching legends like Victor Fontana, Steve White, Stan Glazer and even Phyllis Miller at work, I wanted to go into that business. We tried to copy the best and yet be innovative at the same time.
Dave McQuitty and I had a great run in Westport with our places: The Lone Star, The Hurricane, London’s, The Shadow, Harris House & Guitars & Cadillacs We were honored to have the entire metro area’s outstanding support for the local, regional and national bands that came through our venues for those 25 years. Westport was a great place to conduct business.
Lots of good times, great music moments and after-show fun. I can still smell those tour buses on Mill St.
We sold our last club, The Hurricane, in 2006. Turning 50, it was time to let the next group come in and take it to the next level….hope it happens.
Thanks to all our customers, great staff at the clubs and our vendors for supporting us over the years. We’re very grateful to each one of you..
I’m planning some reunion nights for all former employees, bands, vendor reps and customers of the clubs starting this fall if people are interested. Be fun to swap stories.

I think Glazers point is well taken, there are no really hot night clubs anywhere, that I am aware of, and I am twenty six. Mosaic is busy on some Saturday nights and when there is a concert. Westport not often too busy, Americas Pub is busy on weekends with a black crowd. Raw out south has it goin on most nights but dies early. Plaza, hmm…Kona is about it, dies early too. Glazer is right no out front guys or ladies.
I go to Legends about twice a year to see comedy at Stanfords, they are busy, so dude, they are still important, but not as a late night club.

Its true there is plenty to do in KC, I never said there wasn’t. My story is about how nightclub owners ruled and now they kinda don’t. Its just something else gone from our recent past, kinda like t.v. series that aren’t reality shows or sports, movies about people, places and things, not comic books or horror flicks, and oh yeah actually talkin on the phone or meeting people, that is over as well, we just text now.
