    weatherspoon…great luck.
tim tebow…he’s got the grace of god
and the heart of a winner…he will make everyone forget what they said tonight.
But it won’t be with the broncos.
berry: picked to be the biggest bust. Lets
    hope not.
chiefs drAft picks: mostly busts but hopefully
romeo and charlie can turn it around by being
    able to judge talent.
okc THUNDER: HOW much fun would it be to have
an nba team down at the sprint…did you see
that crowd versus the lakers…that should be
    kc home crowd…but I’m dreaming.

Hopefully chiefs get a big time reciever…thats
the last piece of this puzzle…will charlie
push for the nd guy…or go with his qb.
Blaine Gabbert: stfu and start studying tape
of the big 12 south teams. Until you show us
you can beat them you’re just another mu
    qb.
Frank boal: another guy lost trying to
reinvent himself among new younger talent.
Bill maas: has he seen the light? hAS he
changed. Once considered the hottest voice
in upcoming sports brodcasters now relegated
to local commentator. HOpefully he gets back on top of his
game. LIfe is about redemption and second
    chances.
Great to see some enthursiasm again about the
chiefs. can’t wait for st. joe. Got seats
    behind visitors bench this year.
Royals…something is there but it needs to
click. Starting pitchers appear to be strong.
Hitting is clicking. With some middle relievers
can we be thinking of a winning season.
Can’t wait to see them in kc. And the winning
home run by the nebraska guy really was neat.
Where is mu’s alexander going? I hope he makes
    it.

If Jon Gruden had tits he’d be Joy Behar. Frank Boal is the Paula Abdul of 810. I would prefer it if Mel Kiper would just say he was dead.

If the draft was a 50 year high school reunion the Chiefs went with a box of rubbers and a bottle of Astro Glide. The Broncos went with a bottle of Viagra and some Ecstacy.

Tim Tebow will be closer to God at Mile High. He is the Second Coming of John Elway with Peyton Manning’s football smarts and work ethic. I love this kid. He will be a role model. He will be a leader. He will be active in the community. He is cut from a special cloth. There will be lots of miracles in his future. He will turn the doubting Thomas’s into True Believers.

Chico Esquella says football will NOT be berry, berry good to Eric Berry. Comparing him to Ronnie Lott is like comparing Tony Botello to Craig Glazer.

So the Big XII unloads a bunch of players in the first round. Would prefer if they would win more National Championships. Isn’t that the goal? Kinda like 8 of the first 10 kids in the NBA draft being black. Duh!

Jimmy Clausen would be a perfect fit with the Chiefs regime. Long on pedigree short on results.

Jojo…life is about redemption and second chances? I thought you were right behind smartman with the rope to lynch Tiger?
Tebow? Haha yeah fucking right. Did you see how his center cleared people out when he was running his half ass offense in the clips tonight? Urban Meyer is far and away the best recruiter in football. He was absolutely surrounded by pros at every position on offense. He can’t throw the damn ball! I wish the donkeys wouldn’t have traded for Quinn so after Orton sucked it up they HAD to turn to Jesus…uhhh…Moses…uhhh…Tebow whatever his name is. That was the single worst move in the history of the draft. It would be one thing to draft the kid. It’s a whole different beast when you move up to get him when he wouldn’t have gone for 20 more picks anyway. Clausen wasn’t even off the board!!! Are you kidding me??? Tebow cannot throw a 12 yard out…THE pass to judge an NFL quarterback. Can you imagine him trying to throw those ducks against Nnamdi or even B. Flowers? And what you thought was fast in college ain’t fast in the NFL. He will be crushed by safety after safety, linebacker after linebacker, and intercepted more than a correct statement trying to get from Smartman or Jojo’s brain to their fingertips. Berry is a flat-out baller and instantly makes our secondary decent.

All I know is coming across the middle against the Chiefs is going to be “Berry scary!”

Sorry, smartman, couldn’t disagree more. Berry is a serious stud. He will be the captain of the Chiefs’ defense for many years. Like Lott (who was a CB early in his pro career), Berry is a physical hitter with coverage and ball skills. Plus, he has all the intangibles needed in a leader (intelligence, work ethic, character). The Chiefs’ defense just moved into the middle of the pack of the NFL.

The Chiefs will have a couple of good OT options in the second round, and there are a couple of promising ILBs who will be available in the third.

ESPN’s panel was too many pigs for the teats. Jackson was probably bummed because he didn’t get much talk time; Berman got way too much. How come it takes Boomer two minutes to get to a question?

Stevo, I’m all about redemption and second chances when they are earned and not paid for. Tiger has a long way to go in my book before he’s back to even. The NFL sits Roethlisberger to start the season for one perhaps two incidents with women and a pattern of behavior that shows real emotional immaturity and Tiger gets a heroes welcome from the PGA at their most prestigious tourney for behavior that is far worse?

Say what you want about Tebow. The kid is blessed with a lot of gifts. He has IT, he gets IT and welcomes the challenge and responsibility that comes with IT. He is the polar opposite of that idiot Roethlisberger. This is as ballsy a move as the Saints onside kick at the Superbowl.

Time will tell about Eric Berry. I’m sure he will start and he’s gonna get picked on a lot in his rookie season. He’s going to make rookie mistakes and get burned on some long balls. I think he’s gonna have some of the same between the ears problems that Vince Young had. It doesn’t matter what kind of physical skills or gifts you have when you lose it between the ears in the NFL you’re done. I don’t get the feeling he has that badass thug switch that he can turn on and off like Pat Tillman or Ronnie Lott. Also I’d feel better if he said he was gonna have Chip Foose do a build/restore on a 69 Camaro instead of buying the 2010. The new Camaro’s SUCK.

Greg it is Chris Mortenson, not Craig. Also you just insulted John Elway comparing him to Tebow. Elway is one of the top three QBS all-time. We don’t even know if Tebow will even end up playing there.

I think Berry is going to be legit…usually am sick to my stomach after a Chiefs draft, but actually have a good feeling about him.

Agree 100% about all points made about the ESPN broadcast. I flipped over to the NFL Network. Michael Irvin and Deon are on their TV team, but they don’t let them talk too much mercifully. They have a nerdy guy who who correctly guessed a few picks last night and a draft expert by the name of Mike Mayock, that’s a ton better than Kiper. I’ll be watching the NFL Network tonight.

And ESPN needs to stop with the Kiper hair jokes, still not funny guys. And what’s up with the stupid videos on the left side of the screen of the guys throwing punches? Awful.

    Great Chico Esquella reference Smartman….

Count me in as a Tebow disciple. He is a special kid and will make a difference wherever he plays unless he goes to NFL HELL aka Detroit.

If the Chiefs get some REAL O-Line help to keep Matt off his ass and off the grass then I’m OK with Berry. Safety is a tough, almost thankless position to play in the NFL. It’s like boxing half of the time, just you and the other guy. You’re either a hero or a goat, no in between.

Jon Gruden is flat out annoying. Frank Boal is just lost on his own. I’d rather listen to Karen Kornacki…serious.

I don’t uunderstand Sam Bradford getting picked #1. Somebody wanna explain that for the class?

I am not happy with two scrap-heap retreads (Niswanger and Lilja) to rejuvenate our offensive line. Why does Pioli, a former offensive lineman, devalue this position so?

The pick was a bit of a reach. You could of got him in the middle of the first round. Looking at CBSSportsline here’s what he thought.

“Analysis: I think this is too high for a safety. The value isn’t there at that position. They have other needs. I just don’t think he’s worth a top 5 pick. He’s good. But he isn’t great.”

I’m trying to understand why what Tiger did was worse than what Big Ben did. At least Tiger had consensual sex with the babes. Oh yeah he’s “married”. Big Ben has his bodyguards block the champagne room door so the girl’s friends can’t get in. Classy.
NFL Network is way better than ESPN. I just wish Gruden still worked for them. I hate Chris Berman almost as much a Tim Tebow. The Broncos probably traded Brandon Marshall because they had their sights on Tebow. Give me Marshall anyday with the baggage. Tebow is blessed with a lot of gifts, none of them being the ability to be a NFL QB. But leading team prayer, there’s no one better

John, one man’s opinion … just like Kiper raves on Berry. I’ve been doing some broad research on Berry for the last couple of months and had championed that pick. Some guys have the tag of “Special” on them, and I see it stamped on his forehead.

Anybody who’s watched enough video on Berry can see he likes to hit and has a little strut. Just because an athlete may be a grounded, reasonably humble young man doesn’t preclude him being a bad-ass on the field — or a red-ass, which every team needs: guys who don’t suffer fools among teammates lightly or accept substandard performance (while performing at the highest level themselves).

In the interviews with Berry I have read or watched, he reminds me a little of David Robinson, who I knew pretty well as a rookie. I think Berry will be a perennial all-pro, team leader and valued citizen of Kansas City, much like Albert Pujols (only performing for the local team). I only worry about injury, the same as any other valuable player and less than some others (like Sam “Brodie Croyle” Bradford; Rams should have taken Suh, who put up two good years after surgery). Berry has a good history there.

I can’t say I’ve been as high on a Chiefs’ draft pick since Derrick Thomas, especially since I’m typically a skeptic. They took an impact player who is not prone to repeating mistakes, which he’ll certainly make as a rookie (although his first Pro Bowl won’t be long in the coming), in a huge improvement to a position that is especially important in a 3-4 scheme. Anybody want to argue that the Steelers were ever the same last year after Palomalu went down?

Besides, what have the Chiefs done so far in the off-season to substantially upgrade the defense?

The Chiefs need to use their first 2nd-round pick on an OT and I suspect they go WR with the next one, with ILB in Round 3. After that, I think the talent pool flattens out — not many probable first-year starters, but solid depth.

What Tiger did is not worse than what Big Ben did. Tiger had extramarital sex. Ben broke the law, even if they can’t prove it.

That being said, both will go to hell if Tim Tebow has anything to do with it.

John- You can’t say many sure things about the draft…but I can say for sure that Berry would not have been there in the middle of the first round. Whoever you’re reading there is an idiot. Whether it be Seattle or Cleveland he was gone by #7. If he’s not an impact player then its a bad pick. Not sure why everyone is so confident in the Chiefs to take a good tackle though. There’s no sure bets anywhere. The pundits just say tackles are so everyone follows suit.

The only reason that I think Tiger is a worse offender than Ben is that, in my opinion, Tiger knew better. I have a friend in Pittsburgh who knows Ben pretty well. He’s no apologist but he swears that Ben is just a big, dumb, white guy who is a neanderthal when it comes to women and his bad judgement goes to worse when he drinks. Kinda like Bill Maas back in his heyday when he was bangin’ anything with a pulse and shootin’ jis shotgun in the air from the back of a pickup during the players strike. I’ll cede the point to you cause it’s six of one half dozen of the other. Although I’m amazed that neither Ben or any of his pussy posse have wound up in the clink.

Yeah I don’t know…if what was in the report actually happened in Georgia the guy should go to jail for rape if she said no. No one should be able to buy themselves out of a rape charge. Obviously Tiger is a worthless person but a rapist he is not.

Just thought No. 5 was too much of a reach for a SS. I thought they could of traded the pick to the Jags, get their second or third round pick and he might still be there at 10. If he’s not and KC wanted a safety so bad then Earl Thomas would of been there.

In the last ten years the best safety’s in the NFL are Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu. Reed went 24th in 2002 and Polamalu went 16th in 2003.

    He’s not a CB. No. 5 was a reach for a safety.

    That’s just how I feel.

Greg, it seems you wear as a badge of honor how you’ve been canned at so many joints, but I think I know why that’s been a repeated occurrence — your brutal honesty. If you think it, you say it, and without thinking twice. I’m referring to your Frank Boal opinion. While I like to think that I have a fair amount of nerve, I typically would not have the nerve to express a frank (no pun intended) opinion negatively reflecting on an obviously very nice old guy like Boal. I didn’t catch the 45 minutes to which you refer, and so I don’t have an opinion on the correctness of your viewpoint. But regardless, I do respect the brutal honesty, which has always made your columns a must-read for me (I just can’t believe you’re now doing them on a daily basis — talk about a tough chore listening to all that crap every day!).

smartman, let me get this straight. Tiger had a bunch of women willingly sleeping with him, he didn’t rape any of them, didn’t force himself on anyone, hasn’t been accused of anything illegal and generally appears to just have a really insatiable thirst for strange.

Roethlisberger on the other hand, has had multiple women come forward and accuse him of rape and forcible sex against their will. Multiple women.

Yet in your eyes, Tiger Woods is worse than Roethlisberger because you claim BR is a “big dumb white guy,” which I assume in your eyes excuses all big dumb white guys for anything wrong they ever do in their lives. I must also assume you are suggesting Woods is a genius.

FYI – Roethlisberger scored a 25 on his Wunderlic. A score of 20 is said to indicate average intelligence. Therefore, BR would appear to possess above average intelligence, thus proving your flawed logic to be, well – flawed.

The only thing Tiger Woods is guilty of is being dumb. Roethlisberger, on the other hand, is a prick bully who treats women like shit and people in general as if he’s better than them. But you go right ahead and wave your terrible towel and keep defending him.

  31. Anonymous says:

John I would have been fine but teams just don’t trade up that high anymore. If someone wanted Clausen bad enough they may have went up to get him there but obviously that wasn’t going to happen. The cold hard truth is the Chiefs always seem to put themselves in shitty situations. Three straight top 5 picks in the last three years where the selections are free to negotiate contracts instead of slotted money. Unless Suh, Mccoy or Bradford somehow fell to us there was no one going to move up.
After the new CBA, teams will know just how much they’ll have to spend to move up and they’ll be more willing. It’s pretty obvious if you’re going to suck, either lose all your games suck or win 7 of them and pick from 10-15 where teams WILL move up if you want to add picks.
I don’t know I guess my point is the Chiefs had to take somebody and why not, for once, roll the dice a little bit and try to get an impact player. If he isn’t Ed Reed or Polamalu it’s a bad pick…but if he is that impactful it was well worth it.

Dexter the fact that Roethlisberger or any of his crew haven’t been put in the clink suggests that nothing illegal happened. If you’ve read all the dirt on Tiger you would know that he regularly provided drugs to his ladies to numb their senses since he likes to play rough. If it was my call they’d both get the Michael Vick bad dog treatment.

If we’re going to use the Wunderlic as the basis for all intellectual capacity and emotional maturity then Tony Botello can change his name to Steven Hawking Einstein.

Pioli will be a Kansas City hero in less than two years. The longer he is here, the stronger the new culture of the organization. Do you see his discipline? He was very quiet the first year, but now things are moving his direction and he is opening up. Ego? Where? If he had an ego he would not be saying some of the things he is saying. He said he inherited people of strong character when he got here and he praised Brian Waters this week. The Pioli/ Haley Good Cop/ Bad Cop combo is working. We are on Monday Night Football! I am going a step further…I think we have the best GM in the NFL.

Smartman I concur with your logic about the Wunderlic but by the same token your logic that the fact that Ben and his crew aren’t in jail suggests nothing illegal happened. Ahhh………right and OJ was found innocent and therefore must of been innocent. No all that proved is that you had a DA that didn’t feel confident that he could win the case. PLUS THE GIRL WAS 20 YEARS OLD! You’re talking about Tiger Woods providing drugs to his trashy/skanky/willing women but you excuse Roethlisberger from getting an underage girl so drunk he had to “drag her back to the bathroom?”
You should check your facts…even though it’s pretty clear from reading your posts that BR gets the benefit of the doubt from you and Tiger Woods wouldn’t because of their race.
