Hearne: Six Daze on the Road…

Hey, even axed Star columnists like me need a vacation every year or so…

So it is that I slipped away Thursday to the wilds of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Western Kentucky and the Missouri Bootheel. How glamorous was it? Use your imagination.

Restful? Oh yeah.

Not that I went KC Confidential cold turkey. Behind the scenes, I was furiously editing copy and working on stories that will magically appear starting this a.m..

Naturally, there are those who well may theorize that I bailed, based on the heat I was taking in the comments section re KCC’s Star layoffs stories.

The most amusing aspect of all that: that it was I – not Tony – who took the fall for his tres sympathetic story about the Star Letters Editor’s sad demise.

Allow me to tackle that one head on if you will…

Sure I could have killed Tony’s post – as I did his risque-beyond-belief

    more b.s. hearne…more b.s.
you killed 5 of my comments critisiing you and
    your anger toward the star.
Now you tell us you took on the star and
wrote nasty things about them while on their
    staff…prove it.
I understand you have had personal problems
but to constantly and publicly show amusement
at other peoples tragedies is sick.
whether you wrote the article or tony makes
no difference…this is your site and your
    business.
I hope your trip helped you release the
anger and anxiety in your life. As i said
in my censored comments…revenge is a terrible
    emotion to carry around.
We’ ve all experienced downfalls in life.
Its how we pick ourselves up and move on.
Hopefully you are a changed person.

I believe you were called to task for Tony’s viciousness because you are the only one in town giving him a job or promoting his work on their site.

Even if one of his characteristic character attacks is posted on his own blog, it reflects poorly on you as someone who would promote that kind of thing and exploit it for web hits.

In my estimation (and I don’t think I’m alone here), your hiring of Tony makes you come across as calculating and opportunistic, unless you really think issues like guys doing it in the parking lot at Jardine’s (http://www.kcconfidential.com/?p=8452) or Craig Glazer breaking up with “the black barbie” (http://www.kcconfidential.com/?p=11867) are really the kinds of news stories that will keep the Star on its toes.

Hearne read your column daily at the star. Enjoyed it very much. Since you left there is NO local or even much national celebrity news, at least not from the angle of a KC guy. I found your writings both funny and informative. You let us know why restaurants failed and why concerts sold out or not and why the Chiefs hated so and so. Thats now missing from the paper.

I also liked keeping up on local stars like Brett, Dawson,Gonzolez,Johnny Dare, all the news people like Lizak and even enjoyed the Glazer updates. You are very much missed. Hope you keep working hard on this and your other ventures.

If the Bootheel had the power to change people, there would be a lot more teeth, and a hell of a lot less 15 year old mothers. Welcome back.

Yeah, it’s nice to be back and I’ve got a ton of work to do. But I did have a pretty darn good time. Despite the surprise ending…

    Surprise ending? what surprise?

    did you mean happy ending?

You’re headed the right direction here at KCConfidential. The demise of the Star is big news and a valid perspective whether you worked there or not.
On the new site, change the comments section to require registration and ban repeated offenders. Let the responsible regulars be moderators so you can focus on writing and editing the core columns. Totally anonymous with no registration is too wide open and just encourages trash talk, trolls, JoJos & poor quality feedback. Sure those banned can just re-register but IP addresses can be banned and its one click easier to ban than reregister.
This is the voice of experience. I’ve run a peak oil message board for over 10 years.

Eat it peak oil boy, you are wrong about registration. All registration does is allow the idiots here to immediatley focus on names and not comments, and you see what happens, or do you?

The only good idea in your post was the ban IP addresses, and that can be done right now.

Oil massage broad. Now that’s a good way to have a happy ending.

Note Hearne it was I that had you and Tony’s back. I pointed out it was Tony’s column and he was sympathetic. So not everyone was blasting you.

Inn your Star days I obviously enjoyed the wrestling stuff.
