can we do a caption the picture contest?
Gavin
Anytime someone says “it’s not about the money,” it’s obviously about the money.
I’m with you, Greg. Pointing out, emphatically, that he is the lowest-paid coach in the league says a lot more than the vague sentiments about “doing right.”
And it doesn’t appear that Martin said anything along the lines of “I’m going to be coaching here next year, bank on it.” Not that saying something like that would necessarily be true either, but you have to start wondering what is going through John Currie’s head. If he thinks now is the time to try and get a bargain, Frank martin is the next coach at UConn or some Florida school.
And you’re right that Martin doesn’t sound like he was put off by Currie’s offer, but he also doesn’t sound like a guy who unequivocally thinks he is going to be back next year, eother.

You know I think you can make something anything you want it to be. I also think that’s kind of what I’ve been hearing from poster Honeybaked object to. So for instance as I read this if I choose to emphasis the words “No, not at all.” “It’s the contract I signed.” Then I may have a totally different take on the interview then Greg or Gavin has. Sometimes I think we choose to believe just parts of what we hear and we draw conclusions from that. Which may or may not be accurate.
Gavin
It’s a good point, Rick. I can’t speak for Greg and I have no idea what is going on with Martin beyond what is being offered for public consumption. But I will cop to the fact that I am emphasizing, in my reading of his comments, that he seemed pretty forceful in his statements about being the lowest-paid coach in the league. That may not be the takeaway Martin would hope for and I could easily be wrong, but you’re right in your assessment of how I took those comments.
I do think it’s interesting that while Martin is saying “it’s the contract I signed,” he is also, by all accounts, trying to negotiate a new deal entirely. So, at some point, he is sending the message that he would prefer not to live up to the contract he signed. If he was willing to live up to his deal, wouldn’t he say “this is the contract I signed and I don’t intend to ask for another dime.”? Or, if he wanted an extension, why not try for a deal that pays him what his current deal offers him for the time remaining but add another five years to it and when those five years kick in, give him a raise?
MoCrash
My take on what Martin was saying was that he knows where he ranks on the Big 12’s salary scale, he would certainly like to make more money and is for now counting on the K-State administration to do right by him — but it isn’t his main concern at the moment.
You know what? Kind of sounds like my attitude toward my job: I know I’m underpaid, but like where I’m at and don’t want to have to change jobs — especially since it would mean a move — unless absolutely no appreciation is shown toward my work.
Sounds reasonable enough to me.

Funny how the “hitting” or physical contact of a player goes away when your winning. Funny.
Rainbow Man
Martin will be spending Memorial Day weekend recruiting for another school……..
Prick Wrong
Prick Wrong sucks! Why does anyone listen to him? Seriously

So,
We cant have a “caption the picture” contest? That is too bad, because I had a couple of good ones.
In this picture the coach looks like a nutcracker we use at Christmas. You put the walnuts and pecans in his mouth, pull down the lever on his back, and it cracks the nuts.
Are you sure we cant have a contest? It might be fun.

Caption: “I want my Maypo!!”

Did Nick Wright really “land” the interview. Frank Martin is on every where every week…IT sounds like he has weekly stints on both stations. Take Rayn McGuire’s nuts out of your mouth Greggie…Which he would enjoy by the way!
JOJO
Frankie needs to hook up with snookie.
That would be one hell of a coupple.
good for frankie ..The guy stuck it out in
manhattan and now he’s doing well. It will
be interesting to see how they end up the
season.
He will be gone this year…he’ll make millions. Probably have his own reality
tv show…’FRANKIE AT THE JERSEY SHORE”
Cant wait to see him on tv again. I don’t
watch much basketball but I’m dvring every
cats game just to watch the frankie. He’s
funnier than stewart and colbert.

Give credit where it’s due – Kietzman broke this story, which was where the people with the information wanted it first expressed. The message needed to be delivered to the Purple fanbase that Currie was being disturbingly frugal with the best thing to happen to KState basketball since Jack Hartman. The interesting aspect of this is, was Currie involved in the “release” of this information so as to tweak some donors to pony-up, something they hadn’t been doing previously because of the malfeasance resident in the athletic offices at the university prior to Currie’s arrival. THAT’S the story. I’m not sure Currie’s that smart…then again…

If Frank Martin were offered a decent east coast job…
1) He would be closer to home and his recruiting connections.
2) He would have an easier time bringing in blue chip players. Look at the guys he’s brought to Manhattan, KS. I can only imagine what he could do in a destination spot.
3) He would almost certainly pull in more money.
Maybe Frank Martin is the kind of guy who’s willing to overlook those things to stay loyal to the school who gave him his first job. Maybe he legitimately loves K-State, and he’ll do everything he can to stay. I don’t know the guy. But the scandal and disgrace in which he was fired from his last high school job does not suggest to me he’ll be taking the high road and a pay cut to stay in flyover country. If he stays, I’ll be shocked.
Lionel from Cameroon
That guido hothead is going to break purple hearts all across Kittieland when he goes bye bye after this season. K-State is not a destination spot for a coach, it’s a stepping stone. Three years ago a great opportunity fell in Martin’s lap and he took it and ran…which is exactly what he’ll do come April…run East
bschloz
Enough with F.Martin….this guy knows that K-State is a dream position for him! Thats why he is negotiating after the Texas win. K-State has owned Texas for the last few years anyway, they beat an average Xavier….played well against UNVL and Texas.
They are a good ball club that leads the Country in Fouls given and rank low in many other key categories. I’m sure they will drop some road games in the North…no way they beat Baylor.
$40,000 sounds about right to me.
rick
Ptolemy I think the question is…is it a story or just crap K.K. is throwing at the hoping it will stick. Of course we also know because of his crack reporting the Chiefs season did not occur because of a strike. Opps…..more BS from him.
Dan Dan
Rick…We get it…you don’t like 810…how about something new for once?
rick
SOMETHING NEW!! Dan Dan…I’m not real crazy about you. How’s that for something new? Do you also go by Dino? If you actually read what I wrote you would know I like Petro’s round table discussions and when he checks with sports reporters around the league. But hey why like facts get in your way when you want to make some unfounded comment? Also at 11:19 PM shouldn’t you be in bed.
Dexter Morgan
Whups…how much is Frank Martin worth now after losing at home to Okie State?
