I think the key for how this situation plays out is whether they keep winning. If the ‘Hawks go on a big winning streak, and Tyshawn puts up 15 in a couple of those games, I doubt we hear much more on this. But if KU starts losing a game or two they shouldn’t, this may become magnified.

KU has a lot of basketball talent but it appears the team’s collective IQ would not break 100. Self screwed up by not suspending Taylor back in September.
A lot of people thought the only thing that could derail this KU team would be keeping all that talent happy. Guess what?

The only problem with Kentucky is their similarity to KU. Yes, on any given night they can fill it up and look like an NBA team. But they also rely on a lot of young players and can look a little lazy and overconfident at times. To me, Texas is the only team in the country that has consistently played at a high level, and truly has found their identity and knows how to play within it.

Good point made by a poster about Kentucky…when it comes to talent, they are on par with KU, but they look a lot more hungry than KU…I agree with what GH said.
They’ll blow out Nebraska by 20 tonight and all will be well, until they lose again at some point and Fescoe devotes 9 on-air hours to breaking down the loss.
Interested to see how they play in games when Collins is off. The two games they’ve been challenged this year, Collins has been the only one to man up. Against Cornell and Tenn Aldrich and Xavier didn’t impress or look anything close to All American-type guys to me.

@Jayhawk Fan – Actually, it was Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who is 3-8 and somewhere in the 200s for RPI.
No team plays inspired basketball game after game. Kansas, Texas and Kentucky will lose multiple games, as they will be taking every team’s best shot. All-powerful UNC lost games last year they shouldn’t have lost. It happens.

Actually, Greg has brought this up before. A week or two ago he said that a lot if players were unhappy with their playing time. Now, he didn’t source it and even when challenged he couldn’t point to anyone who was unhappy but he stuck by it. So, while his journalistic standards may be lacking, he was able to make a statement that mightor might not be accurate and stick with it.
Of course, Hall’s comments were related to playing time and I can’t imagine that Tyshawn Taylor, a starter, is actually unhappy about his PT.

I’m not sure Tyshawn’s comments were all that critical of Self. He seems a little introspective to me. He’s a very good player on a very good team and he’s trying to figure out how best he can fit in as what amounts to being as “average” as all the other guys on the team.
Sharon Collins took a while before he figured out how to make his game stand out.
KU’s got a program for whom the only season that matters is the NCAA tournament. I think that’s how Self coaches. Every organization — whether it’s your office or a sports team — is like a stew; you need some spice but you also need some potatoes. It’s all in the mix.

Now KU has ‘raised the bar’ to a 21 on your ACT (wow! just slightly above retarded!) yet the average incoming classes are still clearly superior at MU:
