Readers should note that not once has Hearne ever tried to call, email or poke me on facebook. He continues to write about a former colleague who never once criticized him privately or publicly. I can only conclude that he has some grudge due to the fact that he was laid off and I wasn’t.
Weird. But then, Hearne’s journalistic standards were never top notch, either.

Mike and Roxy have their gardening book coming out. I know he’s a self important, uber intelligent, tree hugging commie lib but I can’t imagine anyone looking for a job doing what he did. Common sense ain’t too common…is it?

Hearne is turning into John Landsberg (www.bottomlinecom.com) in that his “news” is about a week or two after other blogs and so-called “news outlets” have posted things.
That said, the way Mike Hendricks tried to go after this job in Topeka was pathetic and laughable. I can understand not wanting to possibly take another pay cut, but Mike needs to understand that being a newspaper “columnist” and working in public relations are two very different things (see John Landsberg).

I’m not a fan of Mike’s politics, but he seems to be showing great restraint in not retaliating. You’re a better man than most of us for that Mike. All you gotta do is spend some time in the bars in Waldo, Brookside, Plaza, Westport, Crossroads, P&L or Knuckleheads and talk to the bartenders and servers. Most have a story or two about Hearne’s inappropriate behavior and apparently he likes to kiss and tell. Don’t know if any of ’em are true but if they are the guy has a very interesting life for someone his age. Best comment I heard is that Hearne is like KC’s Paris Hilton, only he’s a guy, older and has bigger tits.

I don’t think Hendricks has shown any restraint. At all. Evidenced by his posts on badpitch – and now here.
He was quicker to comment on this than Jojo is on OTC.
With that said – I love a good internet slap fight – and hope he continues to “not respond” to future stories/attacks/quips – or whatever.

I don’t know that Miller is the go to guy for comments on what not to do when looking for a job. Most employers are looking for loyalty and ethical behavior. Considering Miller played in the dirt with the co mayors for 18 months, then flapped his pie hole on Salon.com, I’d wager he won’t be getting any job offers anytime soon. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed reading the dirt, still it doesn’t speak well for Millers future job prospects. That said, Hendricks is a douche in his own right, I doubt there will be much weeping when he gets canned at the next round of layoffs.

I am still new here to hearne’s place here. I dont know about, understand or even much care about the BS politics of that BS KC star newspaper. I think it is fkd that they made people take 1/3 paycuts, wtf?? TOTAL BS!! I dont know why the Star wants to kill itself, it makes no sense ( except on a global/local conspiracy level ) but it is a shame that it is.
All I know is what I see hearne doing here, with this blog, is pretty cool. Real writers, keeping it real. Who knows would could become of it, but it could GO BIG!!!
Mike/hearne maybe you should talk about maybe Mike doing a thingy here. The more good writers the merrier.
I hope all the good KCstar writers come over here, then the stupid KCstar collapses and then with all the good writers here, this blog could turn into a newspaper, we copuld buy up the fancy printing factory and everything old is news again, THEN we can all live happily ever after,,,or something like that. HECK : (, I just wanna have a little fun before before I die.
I am impressed with hearne’s efforts, I hope he keep it up.

Hendricks’ ego knows no bounds. Uninformed, inarticulate, and pompous are a dangerous (and often humiliting to someone with shame) combination.
That said, Hearne has always been a hack. At least, however, a mildly entertainly one.

Agreed Luther. But Hearne’s site wasn’t supposed to be all sports all the time. Got plenty of that in town already. Brian McTavish and Jack Possiger are good additions to KCCONFIDENTIAL too.

Joe-Greg brings something unique to the table. Brian doesn’t write much. Jack is like a bumper sticker of a movie review. Wish it was a little more in depth.

Rick-You’re right about Greg. But I think there are plenty of Brian postings during the week and they’re usually pretty long ones.
As to Jack’s reviews I like that they’re brief and to the point. Also like his general pieces which seem to touch on various local subjects.

Dear Hearne:
I would have thought after so many years you would at least have gained some journalism savvy. But obviously, you haven’t. The earth spun seven times since this story broke, I guess you were left off the mailing list as Jerry Berger would say.
You use the same old tired sources for information, and now adding Joe Miller makes me laugh. Miller’s stint working for the mayor was highly unimpressive but his blatant disregard for professional standard after leaving the position makes him totally unreliable in regards to credibility.
The only real indictment should be to target thosse who employed you and question their judgement why they think you have any real talent or value.
Most gossip writers on their worse day are better than you are on your best day.
