Petro is a loser. He’s the weak link on 810. I wish he would go to 610 so KK could kick his rear again for the third time!

Part of my fondest memories include sitting at Kaufman Stadium on a warm summer night, watching some hustle on the field, listening to to the crack of the bat and the cheers of the crowd, the smell of the summer air and the taste of cold beer and hot dogs with cheap mustard.

A ping in that setting seems so unnatural and out of place. I hate the sound of the ping.

Sorry John, but Petro is the best in KC. He is more knowledgeable than any of the other broadcasters and is passionate about his job. Some of the weaknesses of his show are station related (needing to promote product/restaurant/services) and some are clearly his own (belaboring points, berating callers if he is in a bad mood).

KK definitely has a much smoother delivery than Petro, but he has lost his hunger. Whether he wants to believe it or not, he has become the new Don Fortune. Because he is not as hungry or willing to go out there and get the story himself, he is vulnerable and Petro could take him down if he had Entercom money behind him.

Whitlock coulden’t take down KK. But Petro can?

Petro sucks…he’s a hack that has people thinking he’s a quality broadcaster.

Please. KK is a lazy joke of a host and has been for at least the last five years. Soren, while a conceited ass sometimes, always puts a quality show on the air.

As for competing with KK, I think 610 will do better with their new lineup. I like Chris and Cowboy much better than Neal and Marty, but I think, perhaps most importantly, 610 is trying to beat KK not by recreating the old man talk (Danny/Kevin vs. Neal/Marty) but by offering a younger, fresher alternative.

Let me see all the people KK has beat over the years. Fortune, Jim Rose, Petro twice, Whitlock, Mass, Neal and Marty.

A lot of big name guys. Those names coulden’t do it, but yet C&C will?

Oscar, I would be lazy too if i beat all of the above named people to a bloddy pulp as well.

KK is No. 1, deal with it.

Is it better to be feared or respected? KK is neither.

Dimebag, Whitlock sure fears KK after that whopping he got at the hands of KK.

Chris and Cowboy definitely cater to the younger crowd but BTL is still the show you listen to if you want to be informed or know what the hell is going on. Petro by far has more knowledge than KK, but KK and his show have a “must listen” feel. Sportstalk radio hasn’t been the same since The Drive with Scott and Sid disbanded

Petro could beat KK now that he has become complacent. 5 years ago, no. Now, yes.

Whitlock and Maas were unprepared and it showed, Neal and Marty were boring, Rose was probably viewed as a Nebraska homer in a town dominated by KU, K-State, and MU.

I don’t think Chris and Cowboy can do the job, but they can exploit the young vs. old for some gain.

Two comments – first, my 15 year old son played in a wood bat tournament 2 weekends ago, and I must say that the sound of the wood bats was much better than the ping we normally hear from the boys. As a baseball fan, it was almost soothing. Of course, the ball didn’t travel very far…

You talked about how announcers must stay upbeat during the games. What about the way Bob Davis sounds like he wants to choke somebody after a Royals pitcher walks a batter, or after the Royals make an error. He gets so disgusted on the air, and that’s just one of the many things that makes Bob Davis unlistenable on Royals games. (he’s fine for the Jayhawks though).

I’m a traditionalist, I suppose, but I prefer wood bats. When you whack some punk with an aluminum bat, it just doesn’t sound right, like you’re doing something wrong, it’s almost like it’s un-American. Give me a Louisville Slugger anyday. We never had any scabs cross the picket line go “ping.” Freakin’ scumbags.

Radio guys promoting suits? That’s like asking a guy with no arms to tell us what tennis racket he prefers.

Every single one of the KC sports radio hosts gets old and boring if you listen to them enough. But you have to have some perspective about what it’s like to talk sports in this town…there has been absolutely nothing to illicit any passion from any of them besides constant losing. Losing sucks the life out of going on the air every day, it drags you down and that translates thru the mic and onto the airwaves.

KK has been mailing it in for a few years now and only seems to get mildly enthusiastic lately when talking about the K-State mess. Petro is bitter about the Royals and Hillman and frustrated by stupid callers making stupid comments. Chris and Cowboy both have no business even being on the air, let alone in the 2-6pm slot. Having those frat boy hacks on the radio during those hours is criminal and the station director should be jailed for cruelty to listeners. 610 desperately needs to reach out to Jason Whitlock and find a place for him. Whether you love him or hate him, Whitlock is a ringer for ratings and generates fantastic conversation because of his opinions and personality. He drives topics whether you agree with him or not.

But…the most entertaining, consistent, enjoyable guy on sports radio is Steven St. John. Every day that guy is on he is m-o-n-e-y.

Soren is a knucklehead who has no clue. Do you folks not remember his undying support of Brodie or his slam of Cole A…..right after he had a record breaking game. He’s an idiot. K.K. doesn’t say things he believes just things to provoke reaction. St. John is better then them but he has never reached his potential and is a guy just doing enough to get by. Oh….and JOHN deal with it. Can’t you come up with another line?
