I’ve done tons of radio and TV interviews all over the country and never made a buck…
That’s about to change.
I’m proud to say my pipes will be heard nationally on several radio stations.
Voice over gigs like, “Did you watch the Super Bowl just to see the commercials? Then I’m 93 per cent sure you don’t have a penis. 610 ESPN!”
How did it happen?
My buddy Rob Lane was in a local gym a couple weeks back and ran into an agent who sells voices to radio stations nationally. They discussed each other’s work and the agent asked Rob if he knew a guy named Craig Glazer.
Turns out the dude used to live in KC and heard my, “Think About It” spots on several stations here over the years. Now he lives elsewhere but was in town for a visit.
And the agent told Rob, “That guys got the pipes for national spots, I’d like to speak to him”
So we spoke and I did a demo at SteelCity Media in Westport at Q104 and the Mix…sent it to him and he sent it out to thousands of buyers and we got action right away.
My first spots go to San. Francisco and other California stations…mostly sports and rock stations and I’m so pleased to get this opportunity.
I remember years back I used to be on sports radio with 610 Sports Nick Wright.
He used to introduce me as, “The man with the most recognized voice in KC radio.”
And I thought, maybe I should get paid for it.
I mean, I did my Stanford’s spots but never had big voice offers here.
Now it’s finally happened.
This used to be a big buck biz, but today you have to do lots of them to make a decent living. So the hope is a few big cities will hire me as the exclusive voice for their station and then I can make some serious dough.
Time will tell.
Still it’s a fun job and something I can do on the side.
I remember voice impressionist Frank Caliendo often did my voice on interviews all over the country because he thought I was a funny guy. And I’d get calls from friends that heard it and said, “I knew it was you right off.”
Now I’ll do it and make a few bucks.
So it’s a start on something fun that I hope goes far.
No, they haven’t asked me to do a “Think about it” spot yet.
Hah.
So when you’re traveling you just might hear me do a shout out on your way through whatever city you’re visiting.
Keep an ear peeled!
That’s nice.
🙂
Mazel.
Congrats and good luck!
Thanks David and Chuck, we won’t hear much here on this one, only on any story haters can find a reason to attack, way it is these days in the world. But thank you two for being kind.
Slow down wildman you not doing anything that isn’t being done by a large number of people in Kansas City myself included. Almost every radio DJ it in KC alone is doing voice-over work of some sort even those no longer on the air. Craig Burnett and Traci Wilde both have up and running businesses in this field and have had for years. In short those doing voice-over work are a dime a dozen myself included. You won’t get rich doing it unless you’re someone like Mike Rowe or really well known which does not include you or me for that matter.
Easy Jack, sounds to me like you and Craig are pretty much on the same page – how can he slow down when he’s already admittedly, traveling at a snail’s pace?
you’re one in 3 million glaze. Stick to comedy….forget football/baseball/ voice for radio spots.
You have a face for radio. stick to your comedy shtick.
Wheres the sting movie. Oh…forgot about that now.
You’re not roaring…you’re purring.
But as alwasy I wish you luck in all your business endeavors. You’re aggressive and never turn down a business deal. Good luck. Happy passover.
I knew we could count on you for backing on anything I do Boom/Harley…hah..p.s. I have a face for anything in entertainment pal. do you?
Jack as Hearen stated, I never said “I was the only one.” I said that I just started, money in that market was down and fame was the name of the game,” didn’t I?
You mentioned Traci Wild, I know her, she worked at our club DJ-ing years ago, nice person…don’t know you. People with national reps get the big work, voices are known from film, tv, sports etc…
I do have that going on a bit with my book, movies I’ve done…and a big one coming from my book.
As Hearne and many know I’ve had national and international press by the truckload over the years and will have more I believe plus another book. Yet it’s your face and voice that needs to be known, of course. I have that chance coming so let’s see, who knows?
My story was about the beginning that’s all. Sorry it bothered you so much. I even went into detail on money being low these days but volume helps…again we will see. Not every voice gets picked up mine did, thats all….good luck on yours sir.
maybe 40 years ago…not today.
and please go see appollo hair.
and wearing sunglasses inside went out of style with
miami vice.
sorry…but good luck. you never give up.
So you look at that photo which is just an o.k. pix of me and you think man I look better than that guy? I’ll bet anything nobody else would think that, but we don’t who you are, what you look like or anything about you liar…you are a bag of hot air nothing more a joke.
As for my sunglasses they are real glasses and I’ve always worn dark glasses for a couple decades…
also, i’ve been on the radio more timest than you’ll ever make it.
you have stories in the media about bad stuff…boom boom is a star in
helping others and charity events.
never forget that.
Boom Boom, your hollow claims are meaningless given your decision to hide behind a series of fake names.
You’ve done this; you’ve done that.
All you’ve really done is supply KCC readers with a lifetime abundance of super hot air
so you’ve been on more radio than me, get some help nut wod…I don’t know of anyone other than on air guys who have done half the radio I’ve done, its impossible…nobody has ever heard of you…you are a nobody.
